If there is no threat of a HOT war then you can't end a COLD war.

The USSR knew there was NO threat of an actual war with us or Europe during the Reagan presidency or any presidency before or since after 1945.

Truman was the LAST president that could have put Russia in its place. We had troops in Europe and we had the BOMB.

After we pulled our troops out of Europe and Russia got their own bomb it was essentially a stalemate even though the Russians had TAKEN most of Eastern Europe.

It's like the current situation in Venezuela. The country is going down the tubes but as long as the current "bus driver" president holds power we won't see any change in our relationship with that country. If the people there eventually get someone in power "like" Gorbachev that can open things up and get Venezuela back on the right track then then we can form a new relationship.

You can have all the fantasies about Reagan you want but he didn't really change the USSR. The USSR changed internally DESPITE Reagan...
