medicare plus advantage is about $350/month. That's huge for a lot of older folks.

The ACA is gutting medicare and jacking the rates.

It only pays 80% of doctor visits.

But you can get a supplement for a minimal amount of money that picks up the balance.

That is probably not the problem at all. The guy probably isn't eligible for Medicare because he hasn't been reporting earned income, ever. You have to have a sufficient number of QCs or you don't qualify for Medicare. If you have never worked in your life, you don't get it.


He may not have medicare but even if he does, he still has to pick up the 20%, or he needs to come up with a couple of hundred bucks per month. I don't suspect he has that kind of money. Hence his desire to be back in jail where they pick up 100%.
