What's missing is the notion that AMD's 3D extensions make MMX look like the greatest thing since sliced bread. MMX is useful, widely supported, but hardly a compelling reason to buy. AM3D is all but useless save a few games for which the development was funded with the spare cash AMD had lying around. The question you ought to be asking is when will AMD break $10; not when the new 3D version of Packman with AMD support is due out.

It is possible that AMD will have 400Mhz K6 by Q2 98 that they can ship in volume to undercut Intel although unlikely IMHO.

The problem is that their is only a small segment of the market 20-30% that always want leading edge and is willing to pay for it.

If everybody can make 300Mhz+ CPU's their prices will not be $500 or $400 or $300 or $200 or...???

Best regards,

Kash.

Brian, AMD playing at the same top speed levels as Intel will surely be more profitable then being 2 speed grades behind. For as long as I can remember, the top two speed Intel CPU's have sold for over $500 -- thats where the money is made.
