Here is the same range of years with real dollars per person spending. The end of the period is about two and a half times as much as the beginning but it doesn't really conflict with the earlier chart showing more like 2X since the earlier chart was spending per pupil, and the percentage of people in the US changes over time.

(note the graph is zero based and the lines across the bottom are noticeably further apart than the lines on the left side, this isn't playing games with the presentation to make the increase seem more extreme)
