Whew! Drink a little too much coffee this evening, Andy?

I too am extremely bullish on the long term prospects for this company (read my previous posts). I've read the press releases and I've been following this company since the CalFiber days and Nacchio's old AT&T rants. My criticisms, though, are valid. There might be a larger data strategy under the surface, but I do not see it yet, and your supporting articles are more Wall Street fodder then any substantive announcement of a profitable long-term data plan.

The aquisition of the Colorodo Supernet was quite amusing in the industry for a while there. Why buy a second-tier regional Sprint customer with no national network and no established peering agreements? For a few engineers? I know a good headhunter that could save them a lot of money. This IP calling card thing is much of the same. Neither investment will constitute much of an impact on their bottom line.

I like QWST because of their facilities and the fundamentals of their organization. I do not see a data strategy here, and I know this industry well enough not to be distracted by Wall Street fluff. QWST will explode when the cross-country network is complete (end of Q1 98) and we'll see more of the same as new fiber channels are opened (Seattle-SFO, etc). I am sure something will emerge (they can afford the talent to put something together), but this is not it.

For what it's worth...
