Paul; I had heard they had bettered their yields?, anyone know?, or do they bury that until they must report it(esp if bad)
From AMDs point of view if they can get their yield significantly better than Intels(Big question), let us say 25% better, they can then overcome the differential disadvantage and make money, even at a 25% discount. Intel would then have to lose money on each one to make AMD lose on each one. If AMD forgot the 25% less sales price but did get a 25% better yield it could become a real battle, and even Intel might be forced to yield. The new slot 1 and the merced might then be needed to keep the barbarians away.
Hopw will Intel face the fragmentation in the market as Microsoft libraries allow many diverse MMX offshoots to steal a march on Intel, whose implementations will be along a lot later(and faster in speed too), leaving a window for the barbarians.
