I was interested in the potential of the asphalt business and the capabilities of the refinery of aipc. According to Gary, most asphalt is made from the sludge that is a by-product of the refining process for gasoline, heating oil, lubricants, etc....its the last bit of stuff left over in the bottom of the tank.... The refinery of aipn's is set up to reverse the process and to extract the necessary components that make asphalt first...the residual that's left over from this process is more the sweet crude that can be used to make jet fuels and other niche products. The asphalt is of a much higher grade. In his opinion, aipn would get killed trying to enter the gasoline business, but the niche areas like jet fuel, asphalt, etc. are very lucrative. Also, the lab at the refinery is considered the most hi-tech asphalt lab in the country. 2. I asked about the Wavetech/Geotech situation. He explained that GF made the decision to do their own 2-D seismic because Wall Street and the investing public would require it to substantiate their reserve amounts. His comment was, we've stated that we think Chik is as big as the other 15 structures combined...plus we've announced that the seven structures have a reserve level of 1.1 billion barrels (at a 85% discount). For discussion purposes only, If aipn would announce that Chik has 1.1 billion barrels (at 85% discount) institutional investors will call and want to know how they came up with this number....In GF's opinion, an analysis of older soviet data by Wavetech wouldn't be sufficient. So they hired Geotech, the same company that does 2D seismic for Mobil, Chevron, Exxon, etc. in Kazakstan, to accumulate new data. They will then share this data with Wavetech. Geotech and Wavetech will come up with independent assessments of the data. Now when Wall Street calls they can say, the number comes from 2d seismic data compiled by the same company "majors" use, analyzed by two independent geophysical engineering firms, and also agreed to the data obtained by the Soviets. Wall Street will then be a believer. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THE REFERENCE TO CHIKUDUK HAVING 1.1 BILLION (AFTER 85% DISCOUNT) WAS FOR DISCUSSION PURPOSES ONLY. THEY HAVE SAID THEY THINK CHIK HAS AS MUCH OIL AS ALL THE OTHER STRUCTURES COMBINED. HE USED THIS # BECAUSE THAT IS THE NUMBER OF RESERVES THAT HAVE BEEN PUBLICLY RELEASED TO-DATE! 3. A couple of months ago I talked to Gary and he made the comment, I feel this stock has more potential than any other stock out there. I asked Gary whether this was still his opinion, and his comment was, " Yes, even more so today than I did then!" 4. He also made the comment that there was a rumor that Herb (not sure about last name) had told someone that he'd advised some to sell at $7. He said that this was a 100% falsehood....definitely not true! The story is still very bullish. Gary wouldn't comment on the timeline for news. I ended by telling him the next time he talks to GF, tell him we all want him to catch all those shorters with their pants down...and cut their b-lls off.
