That is part of it. But not all of them are actually self-hating. They are closeted because being an openly gay Republican is an oxymoron. To have a career as a Republican, you have to march in lockstep with leadership. While bleating about how it is really the Democrats who are forced to toe the party line and the Republicans are all free-thinkers who just happen to have uniform public beliefs...
