Cary,

Milton Friedman, who Alan Greenspan admits an admiration for, has published extensive studies and analysis showing the corelation between money supply and economic growth. The Fed knows and understands the impact of various actions on money supply (unlike the BOJ).

Those countries that mismanage money supply will continue to have runaway inflation or recessions/depressions. I would not include the US in that group of countries. Other parts of the world, probably, but not the US at this time. I would give the US a probability of 15% or less of having at least 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth.
