Dear Jack : Any discussion of financial freedom I won't say should include a study on tithing but it is the meat and the potatoes of the discussion. I have not even mentioned tithing yet , except in passing, simply because it is such a "touchy" subject for pastors and congregations alike. Nevertheless; we have all had the canny ability to touch the "touchy" on this thread and come away blessed by it. IT IS MY PRAYER THEREFORE TO CALL THIS SUBJECT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR THE EDIFICATION OF THE SAINTS OF GOD. AMEM You started your discussion with the following statement: >>>>Re. tithing/giving. I have had this belief and conviction for years: Either we give to God our "first-fruits" or we are giving permisiion for the devil to take it.<<<<< "Re: tithing/giving" By placing the slash between the two words it gives the impression that the two words are equal in importance or concept. To me there are two different concepts here. LEV 27:30 "And all the tithe of the land whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree is the Lords: it is holy unto the Lord." I have made the mistake of blessing the tithe when I am called upon to say an offeratory prayer in church. There are very few things that the scripture depicts as HALLOWED and along with the tithe ,and God's name there are precious few. The tithe is already blessed, already sanctified, already set apart, already holy, already Gods. So there is no need to bless it or cleanse it or make it fit for Gods use. It never was mine, always was Gods. It temporarily left Gods hand and entered my hand. There are many analogies, finding, coming across, something that is not yours. Another person giving you a valuable belonging to someone else, and it being your responsibility to return it to the rightful owner. This is my point, it is very difficult to even get into the mindset of giving without first tithing and understanding it. Giving goes FAR beyond tithing. Isn't there a character issue here. ? Would it do a person any good to be generous hearted but be the type of person who would not return a lost or stolen valuable to the rightful owner. Go another step beyond that. How about a holy, blessed , sanctified belonging of the living, holy, righteous God. All this may at this point sound like music to the ears of a pastor whose church is on a tight budget, but there is a flip side to my discussion, however I would like to hear what you think so far. OH. Did I mention that Maranatha, my church, received proceeds in the amount of 200 K dollars, from a key man life insurance policy, the pastor had taken out on himself, payable by the church, prior to his death. God truly works in mysterious ways," fearful reverence". May God bless and enrich you in all possible ways, including your finances......gregor
