The 900+ point drop in Japan is due to a food company asking for protection (something like chapter 11?) bloomberg.com

I never feel so close to Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan these days. How many Wall Street analysts can point out where they are if I give them a world map?

It could be that their economy is in a toilet, showing no growth for years. It could be that their banks and insurance companies are nearly insolvent and only massive sleight of hand is keeping their doors open. It could be that you have not even begun to see Japanese companies report the losses on their huge investments in the Asia "Tigers". It could be that they have zero confidence in their neighbor, South Korea, and the idiot that just won the election there. Or maybe it is something worse than all that. Potato, The perception is it is worse than all that. Glenn
