They are definitely have a strong vertical component but I wouldn't call it a niche market. AFA the office-pack, that's obvious about as horizontal as you can get. It's clear, however, that they don't get it in so many ways that you have to wonder about their ability to compete in the market place. I would almost go so far as to say they are stupid but let's be civil and just say they are showing a lack of normal intelligence, foolish and irrational [L. stupidus < stupere, to be stunned or amazed]. Ubiquity is the key for the office product and they are in for a rude awakening when eSuite is released. The 50% deal they are now offering educational institutions is a rip-off of Microsoft-like proportions when you consider they can get the IBM product for $49 a head. So why be stupid when you can be, say, smart and head off the competition at the pass? That's the problem with technically sound companies, they don't have a clue when it comes to marketing because they see the price as a reflection of their work.
