You forgot Stephen Jobs who credited LSD for changing his life.

I think there is no doubt that LSD, more than any other drug of abuse, can create awareness that cannot be gotten any other place. Primarily, for me, it produced a freedom from the dimensions to which our thinking is normally limited (e.g., I know what a "cone of light" is, and how music can have significant visual components).

OTOH, there were negatives I never developed an appreciation for. I think most thoughtful people, after a few experiences with it, start to find it is a drag on them. I could deal more readily with microdot or barrel than with windowpane or brown. In the end it all turned bad for me. But the early experiences allowed me to comprehend that there is a lot of power in the mind that is inaccessible on a day-to-day basis, and I think it made it worthwhile for me. That's looking back.

I wouldn't have wanted it for my children, though.
