>> There is so much hate generated by Southern Baptists for gays, the transgendered and other minorities, its pathetic. But because they don't resort to violence but rather give millions to pols who will try to limit the rights of those people Baptists hate, some how their hate is less hateful.

That's painting with a very broad brush. My guess is you are thinking Southern Baptists are like Westboro, and that is a totally absurd generalization (which ought to be obvious to you since you don't really see any organization other than Westboro conducting itself in this hateful manner). They may be cranky old people who are extreme in their beliefs, but Westboro is certainly not representative or even suggestive of what those congregations are.

While there are still around 20M Southern Baptists, they don't "hate" LGBTs or other minorities, certainly not as a group. Many do feel the LGBT lifestyle is a sin, but that in no way translates into "hate".

I had business dealings for a few years with the largest Southern Baptist church in the world. And they were scoundrels and I hated having to deal with them but it was necessary. They were not people I would ever want to deal with again. But they didn't go around hating people. In fact, there were at least a couple of obviously gay men in their office where I commonly met with their finance people. I doubt they'd have had them in there if they were in fact hating on them.

You confuse the notion of "hate" with their concept of "sinning". Sins are something that need to be fixed in whatever way it is they fix them.

You don't know anything about the people you're talking about. You're just hating on them ... not much different than you THINK they do.

There is so much hate generated by Southern Baptists for gays, the transgendered and other minorities, its pathetic.

Not SBC, but the pastor the church I go to now is an Assembly of God preacher, the son of an Assembly of God preacher who is still preaching and he had a brother who died of AIDS years ago. I'm pretty sure from the time I heard this story told that the family, while almost certainly horrified, did NOT hate their son and brother. I had a cousin who was gay die of cancer, not AIDS related, and the closest family he had left were my elderly SB church going parents. They cared for him as he declined. Not some gay friends. They didn't hate their nephew even though they didn't understand him. My Dad did convince him into accepting Christ though, which provided some consolation to all. My cousin was a snide, smart ass liberal from his teens on, just like the ones on SI. I always figured he was gay and I didn't want to know for sure about it as I thought he was creepy.
