Let's take a cue from the UK and watch the betting markets. So far, Hillary has the best odds for winning the election. Jeb Bush is second, but by a good gap.

It may not even be the economic situation in the traditional sense. As long as she can convince enough individuals and interest groups that their economic situation will depend on her getting elected - she'll get their votes. I suspect 2012 showed that the political landscape may have "progressed".
