I saw a WSJ Interactive headline today that says Microsoft says its motives in fighting the DOJ have been "misunderstood" and it may be willing to settle. Can anyone confirm this and provide a link or post a copy of the article?

Regimond, you must admit that the Special Master has got to be poison to them. Poor John Dowd goes ballistic every time I post the name "Lessig," and I'm sure his feelings pale compared to Chairman Bill's.

And no wonder: Even if Lessig is not as liberal as I think he may be he's still probably a loose cannon. Independent thinkers take pride in their unpredictability. And this guy appears to have no reservations whatever about getting the government involved in even the most minute aspects of the software development process, so Microsoft's "We should have the right to develop our own products" arguments would appear to be a non-starter with him. Furthermore, he's smart enough to be able to see through their technical BS.

God only knows what he'll do if he's given the chance.
