"Didn't the Democrats control the Senate till 3+ months ago?" In theory, where majority rules, yes. In practice, where 60 votes rule, no. that's why Fast Track just failed while getting 52 votes. "If Republicans are doing all this cutting why are we still running almost a billion dollar deficit?" We don't want people to get excited, and say, "look, budget is balanced, no need to pay debt, let's cut taxes". Or maybe, cuz you rounded $480 B down to $1B instead of up to $1T.
