Smartest President Ever Says Weaponized Chlorine Is Not a Chemical Weapon

[Too short to excerpt]

Here is some video of the press conference (complete with a classic Obama snippy reply to a reporter).

Here is a tweet from a reporter quoting him if you don’t want to watch the video:

It’s not just me who finds this odd, noted Right Wing Nutjob organization the United Nations says that, yes, chlorine kinda always has been a chemical weapon.

The modern use of chemical weapons began with World War I, when both sides to the conflict used poisonous gas to inflict agonizing suffering and to cause significant battlefield casualties. Such weapons basically consisted of well known commercial chemicals put into standard munitions such as grenades and artillery shells. Chlorine, phosgene (a choking agent) and mustard gas (which inflicts painful burns on the skin) were among the chemicals used. The results were indiscriminate and often devastating. Nearly 100,000 deaths resulted.
Since World War I, chemical weapons have caused more than one million casualties globally.

It’s more than likely that everyone around him is buying into his arbitrary classification. Remember, this is the guy who makes up job numbers and thinks the economy is booming along and doesn’t get asked a lot about any of it.

What I’m wondering here is if he has any plans in the near future to redefine what “nuclear weapon” means.

Uber’s Fate Is In The Hands of 12 People
................................................................................................................
Townhall.com ^ | May 19, 2015 | Lawrence Meyers

Rideshare company Uber Technologies may be headed for a world of hurt. A California judge has ruled that a class action complaint against the rideshare company will be heard by a jury, in order to decide if Uber drivers shall be classified as employees or independent contractors.

Should the jury decide that drivers are, in fact, employees, it will cost the rideshare company untold sums due to its workforce. It could be on the hook for overtime; unpaid tips; health, life, and disability insurance; Social Security and Medicare; unemployment and worker’s comp insurance; paid leave, vacation pay, and sick days; and other costs that could amount to as much as $30 per hour.

Core Issue

The case rests on whether or not Uber exerts control over how its drivers provide transportation services, and if so, to what extent. There are two areas to examine in determining employee or contractor status. Should any plaintiff demonstrate that they are providing work or labor, that in itself provide a prima facie case that they are, in fact, a servant.

The District Court held that this hurdle was unquestionably cleared by the Plaintiffs, which was regarded as a matter of law.

Disproving the prima facie case falls to the putative employer, but the interpretation of various Supreme Court cases in this regard is not so clear-cut, and the law requires a jury make these determinations of fact. The Court has ruled that a number of criteria exist to determine status, but that the totality of the situation must be considered, and any one element does not trigger one status or the other.

The Court has determined that an employer’s right to control work details is the most significant consideration. Intertwined with this concept is the notion that if the employer has to the power to terminate the employee at any time, without cause, then it gives the employer powerful ability to control those work details.

Control?

Given that Uber can, and has, discharged drivers without cause on multiple occasions (some of them high-profile), it would appear the most significant test has been met. Uber’s services agreement says, “Uber will have the right, at all times and at Uber’s sole discretion, to reclaim, prohibit, suspend, limit or otherwise restrict the Transportation Company and/or the Driver from accessing or using the Driver App…”

While Uber claims that drivers can work any time that they want, and that they may refuse any rides they want, the Uber Driver Handbook says otherwise: “We expect on-duty drivers to accept all [ride] requests.” Furthermore, it states, “we consider a dispatch that is not accepted to be a rejection…and will follow-up with all drivers that are rejecting too many trips,” which could lead to termination. The same applies if a driver’s rating is too low.

Previous Supreme Court cases, however, have established numerous other criteria.

· Whether the one performing services is engaged in a distinct occupation or business;

· The kind of occupation, with reference to whether, in the locality, the work is usually done under the direction of the principal or by a specialist without supervision;

· The skill required in the particular occupation;

· Whether the principal or the worker supplies the instrumentalities, tools, and the place of work for the person doing the work;

· The length of time for which the services are to be performed;

· The method of payment, whether by the time or by the job;

· Whether or not the work is a part of the regular business of the principal;

· Whether or not the parties believe they are creating the relationship of employer-employee.

While the District Court judge sent the case to a jury to determine which factors, if any, determine employment status, he strongly signaled that the facts seem to weigh in favor of drivers being regarded as employees.

Plaintiffs provided numerous documents that were, “written in the language of command”, instructing drivers with specific details about the manner in which they operate. They include dressing professionally, texting clients every minute or two prior to pickup, how and where to pick up a passenger, and using an umbrella when it rains to cover the passenger.

All of these factors, and more, are effectively monitored by Uber based on passenger ratings. Thus, a driver not living up to Uber standards – whether suggested or ordered – could be terminated, as stated in Uber’s own handbook. The passenger effectively functions as a company observer because Uber can directly react based on the information it receives.

Finally, Uber rightly claims that because drivers set their own hours, that factor should weigh in favor of contractor status. Yet the judge was quick to point out that one factor alone does not determine status. What is more important is how much control Uber exerts when its drivers actually do work. Secondary factors, as the judge pointed out, seem to weigh in favor of contractor status, such as drivers providing their own vehicles. On the other hand, a vehicle is useless without the app provided by Uber.

Experts point to the case of Alexander vs FedEx, in which the company lost a massive case, requiring it to treat contractors it hired from 2000 to 2007 as employees. It opened up the floodgates for more than two dozen other similar cases.

The evidence seems to weigh against Uber. The liability on misclassification could run as high as $30 per hour, multiplied by all the hours put in by all Uber drivers in California alone.

Then one must ask how much it may be liable for going forward, and this doesn’t even address the possibility of a similar lawsuit in every state. Should that happen, Uber will need a ride to the cemetery.

The Clinton Coven at ABC --ABC spokesperson in Stephanopoulos flap worked in Clinton White House
.................................................................................
foxnews.com ^
5/23/15 | FOX NEWS

The ABC News spokesperson who slow-walked The Washington Free Beacon’s request for comment on ABC's Stephanopoulos’ undisclosed donations to the Clinton Foundation also worked in the Clinton admin. Heather Riley -- spokesperson for ABC News programs helmed by Stephanopoulous, “GMA” and “This Week” -- worked in the White House press office 1997-2000, according to LinkedIn, and is a member of the Facebook group “Clinton Admin Alumni.”

Fox reports The Free Beacon contacted ABC News on the afternoon of May 13 to request comment. “I was just forwarded your email about George. I’m going to send you something,” Riley emailed TFB later that night. “Want to make sure you get it in time. " Riley later told the Free Beacon that she would deliver a statement by 7 AM the next morning. However, the statement did not arrive until 9:40 AM about 15 min after POLITICO published its “scoop” about the donations.

WH records show Riley was a press contact for then-FL Hillary. Prior to ABC News, Riley was senior director of brand communications for Rodale, Inc. The company, and its charitable foundation, have donated $20-$50,000 to the Clinton Foundation, records show. The Rodale family contributed at least $5,000 to Hillary’s campaigns 2005-08. Stephanopoulos worked on Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign, and held several top posts in the Clinton admin including spokesman and senior adviser.

With five and a half hours left in the Memorial Day Weekend in Baltimore, they have had 27 shootings of which at least 9 were fatal, making it the bloodiest weekend in Baltimore this century.

The mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, prosecutor and black activist, Marilyn Mosby, and Chief of Police Batts as well as the rioters and looters in Baltimore have all done their damnedest to separate those abusive cops from the innocent citizens minding their own business on the streets.

They got their wish and the streets are running red with blood.

The Age Of Disinformation
.........................................................................................................
medium.com@spann/the-age-of-disinformation-98d55837d7d9

I have been a professional meteorologist for 36 years. Since my debut on television in 1979, I have been an eyewitness to the many changes in technology, society, and how we communicate. I am one who embraces change, and celebrates the higher quality of life we enjoy now thanks to this progress.

But, at the same time, I realize the instant communication platforms we enjoy now do have some negatives that are troubling. Just a few examples in recent days…

I would say hundreds of people have sent this image to me over the past 24 hours via social media.

Comments are attached… like “This is a cloud never seen before in the U.S.”… “can’t you see this is due to government manipulation of the weather from chemtrails”… “no doubt this is a sign of the end of the age”.

Let’s get real. This is a lenticular cloud. They have always been around, and quite frankly aren’t that unusual (although it is an anomaly to see one away from a mountain range). The one thing that is different today is that almost everyone has a camera phone, and almost everyone shares pictures of weather events. You didn’t see these often in earlier decades because technology didn’t allow it. Lenticular clouds are nothing new. But, yes, they are cool to see.

No doubt national news media outlets are out of control when it comes to weather coverage, and their idiotic claims find their way to us on a daily basis.

The Houston flooding is a great example. We are being told this is “unprecedented”… Houston is “under water”… and it is due to manmade global warming.

Yes, the flooding in Houston yesterday was severe, and a serious threat to life and property. A genuine weather disaster that has brought on suffering.

But, no, this was not “unprecedented”. Flooding from Tropical Storm Allison in 2001 was more widespread, and flood waters were deeper. There is no comparison. In fact, many circulated this image in recent days, claiming it is “Houston underwater” from the flooding of May 25–26, 2015. The truth is that this image was captured in June 2001 during flooding from Allison.

Flood events in 2009, 2006, 1998, 1994, 1989, 1983, and 1979 brought higher water levels to most of Houston, and there were many very serious flood events before the 1970s.

On the other issue, the entire climate change situation has become politicized, which I hate. Those on the right, and those on the left hang out in “echo chambers”, listening to those with similar world views refusing to believe anything else could be true.

Everyone knows the climate is changing; it always has, and always will. I do not know of a single “climate denier”. I am still waiting to meet one.

The debate involves the anthropogenic impact, and this is not why I am writing this piece. Let’s just say the Houston flood this week is weather, and not climate, and leave it at that.

I do encourage you to listen to the opposing point of view in the climate debate, but be sure the person you hear admits they can be wrong, and has no financial interest in the issue. Unfortunately, those kind of qualified people are very hard to find these days. It is also hard to find people that discss climate without using the words “neocon” and “libtard”. I honestly can’t stand politics; it is tearing this nation apart.

Back to my point… many professional meteorologists feel like we are fighting a losing battle when it comes to national media and social media hype and disinformation. They will be sure to let you know that weather events they are reporting on are “unprecedented”, there are “millions and millions in the path”, it is caused by a “monster storm”, and “the worst is yet to come” since these events are becoming more “frequent”.

You will never hear about the low tornado count in recent years, the lack of major hurricane landfalls on U.S. coasts over the past 10 years, or the low number of wildfires this year. It doesn’t fit their story. But, never let facts get in the way of a good story…. there will ALWAYS be a heat wave, flood, wildfire, tornado, tyhpoon, cold wave, and snow storm somewhere. And, trust me, they will find them, and it will probably lead their newscasts. But, users beware…

· Michelle Obama has plastic surgery at Walter Reed on taxpayer’s dime
……………………………………………………………………..

Coach is Right ^ | 6/7/15 | George Spelvin

First lady Michelle Obama had plastic surgery, including a nose reconstruction job which helped alter her African-American facial features.

The procedures reportedly were done at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in complete secrecy during the summer of 2011
, according to an exclusive sourced investigation by THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER! (1)

This block buster news story, complete with before and after pictures of FLOTUS, states, “in a slap in the face to America’s courageous wounded warriors,” Madam Obama had work done on her saggy skin, her face, butt, hips, and abdomen.

Allegedly, all or most of this Presidential plastic surgery was done on the taxpayers’ dime. Yet this White House, that promised voters it would be the most transparent in Oval Office history, continues to shroud this saggy skin scandal in secrecy.

So much for Black Pride! So much for Black Female Pulchritude!

What makes her reported plastic surgery work doubly offensive is her over the top hypocrisy in touting Black identity, Black worth themes! Using one of the nation’s most esteemed medical hospital facilities, whose purpose is to treat our wounded military men and women returning from the war zones to which her husband sent them, America’s First “Lady” had the following work done: facelift, fillers at her eyes and lips, nose job, botox injections. How sick is that? She re-works her facial features to look more Caucasian, all the while showing disrespect for wounded warriors by using their own Walter Reed Army Hospital.

This article suggests that, at most, Obama would only have had to pay her anesthesiologist because surgeon’s fees at Walter Reed are WAIVED, even for elective surgery! These world renowned plastic surgeons work on our most severely wounded soldiers, just to return their features to some semblance of before-injury appearance, yet Michelle Obama takes up their valuable time for her own vanity?

Where is the outrage of our left wing media investigators on this scandal?

“Michelle Obama had fat sucked from her abdomen, hips, and butt.” (2) So much for her healthy eating campaigns. Even she wanted to get rid of her wheat belly, ASAP. Oh, and don’t forget the many stories briefly in reference over the years, about all of the wigs Michelle Obama wears. What was that Oprah said about the joys of having black hair?

Did America’s First Lady bump more seriously wounded soldiers to have her nostrils reduced? No other media outlet is doing this story. The NATIONAL ENQUIRER asked their panel of top drawer plastic surgeons to analyze her before and after pictures done on the Robinson-Obama nose, her facial features, and deduced that work definitely had been done.

Judicial Watch investigator Jill Farrell is upset at Michelle Obama’s total disregard and insensitivity for our wounded warriors returning from White House directed hot wars. “It’s a crying shame,” Farrell said about Obama allegedly taking up space in Walter Reed, space our injured soldiers needed immediately!

The White House must reimburse Walter Reed–that is, U. S. taxpayers–if in fact Michelle Obama used taxpayer funded resources to re-work her appearance.

Everything You Need to Know About Transracial Hero Rachel Dolezal

.......................................................................................................................................................................
breitbart.com

by Ben Shapiro12 Jun 2015

On Friday, after a long news week, the story of Rachel Dolezal hit the press, proving once again that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
]
Just last week the President of the United States congratulated Bruce Jenner on his courageous decision to pretend to be a woman, and the entire left bursting into spasms of ecstasy over a collectively insane decision to ratify the notion that men can magically become women.

Today, the entire left is struggling to explain how a white woman who identifies herself as black is not, in fact, black.

Here’s the basic story: Rachel Dolezal is president of the Spokane, Washington chapter of the NAACP. For years, she has passed herself off as black. Now her parents have told the press that she is their “birth daughter and we’re both of European descent… we’re puzzled and it’s very sad.” Her ethnic heritage: German, Swedish, Czech. She is less black than Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is Native American. Rachel stopped corresponding with her parents because she was afraid, according to them, that they would expose her ruse. Now, some additional facts on the greatest story in human history:

She Has Admitted Her Parents Are White. When asked by The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Washington whether she was white, she answered, “That question is not as easy as it seems. There’s a lot of complexities… and I don’t know that everyone would understand that.” She concluded, “We’re all from the African content.” Except, of course, for Barack Obama, who was born in Hawaii.

She Says She Lived in a Teepee, and Her Family Used Bows and Arrows to Hunt. In an interview with The Easterner, the newspaper for Eastern Washington University, conducted by Shawntelle Moncy (who described Dolezal as a woman with unexpected green eyes, a caramel skin complexion and a warm smile, as well as a woman of “many faces”), she said that she was born in a “Montana teepee.” She said that her family “hunted their food with bows and arrows.” She said she and her parents lived in Colorado and South Africa after moving from Montana. Her parents say all of that is false.

She Is An Adjunct Professor of African-American Studies at Eastern Washington University. President of the university Mary Cullinan described her in March as “an inspiring role model for EWU students.” She teaches African-American studies, as well as classes including “African and African American Art History, African History, African American Culture, The Black Women’s Struggle, and Intro to Africana Studies at EWU.” Yes, “The Black Women’s Struggle.” Her profile says her “scholarly research focuses on the intersection of race, gender and class in the contemporary Diaspora with a specific emphasis on Black women in visual culture.”

She has other interests, too, including “African dance” and “ethnic hair styling.” Yes, seriously.

Her Work Has Been Featured By The United Nations. According to her EWU profile again:

In addition to her role as an educator, Doležal has fourteen years of experience as an exhibiting artist and has taught K-12 & college art lessons in public, private, and non-traditional school settings. Her works have been featured in The Artist’s Magazine, shown in 13 states and displayed at the United Nations’ Headquarters in New York. Doležal began teaching private & group art lessons in 1994 and synthesizes art history, cultural studies, & the creative process when teaching. She believes that the creative process is part of what makes us human and unifies our self-identity with the world around us. Doležal was an instructor in the Art Departments at North Idaho College from 2005-2013 and has taught at Eastern Washington University since 2007.

She Is A Licensed Diversity Trainer. She went to Howard University for her Master’s Degree, where she reportedly told her adoptive brother not to “blow her cover.” She then became “Director of Education at the Human Rights Education institute, a licensed diversity trainer, and a consultant for human rights education and inclusivity in regional schools,” according to her profile at EWU.

She Says She Was Repeatedly Abused By Her Parents and Ex-Husband. They then moved to South Africa, where her mother and stepfather beat her and her siblings, “punish[ing] us by skin complexion.” The reporter continues:

According to Doležal, the object her mother and stepfather used to punish them was called a baboon whip, used to ward baboons away in South Africa. These whips would leave scars behind, “they were pretty similar to what was used as whips during slavery.”

Her parents say she’s a liar; they never even lived in South Africa.

Then she was abused by her ex-husband:

According to Doležal, her ex-husband was abusive to her and even their son. At two years old, little Franklin would intervene between Doležal and her ex-husbands violence and “he would sometimes get thrown across the room,” she said.

She Says She Was Date-Raped. According to that interview in The Easterner, she was later date-raped by a mentor:

One of Doležal’s paintings was at a convention center in San Francisco, where her and a trusted mentor went out to dinner together to celebrate the sale. As soon as Doležal looked away, the mentor slipped gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, also called the “date-rape drug,” into her drink. According to Doležal, her mentor took advantage of her that night. She said suing was nearly impossible due to the amount of wealth the man had. “I can never trust anyone to bring me a drink again, you know, because it was a trusted person,” she said.

Of course, she never reported anything to the police and no one was ever arrested.

She Says She Is Blonde Because Of Cancer. She told The Easterner:

In 2006, Doležal developed cervical cancer. During chemotherapy, she decided to keep her incredibly long, blonde dreadlocks she had had and still puts them on today. She was considered cured in 2008.

She Says She Her Black Brother Is Her Black Son. As BuzzFeed reports, according to her dad, Larry, her “oldest son Izaiah,” who she cites in the press, is actually her adoptive brother. “He used to be my brother,” she told the Couer D’Alene Press. “But I have full custody of him now.” She told that same outlet that they could “DNA test me if they want to.” Her parents say that they adopted four black children. Ruthanne Dolezal said, “It’s very sad that Rachel has not just been herself. Her effectiveness in the causes of the African-American community would have been so much more viable, and she would have been more effective if she had just been honest with everybody.”

She Has Repeatedly Claimed To Be The Victim of Anti-Black Hate Crimes. She says Idaho white supremacist groups burglarized all of her homes when she lived in the state, and explained that they felt “threatened by female power.” She says they threatened to kidnap her son, Franklin, and “hung nooses in her home.” No arrests were ever made.

This week, Spokane police released information about Dolezal’s most recent complaint: that she received hate mail. But according to the Spokesman-Review, it’s highly possible she sent it herself:

Police records say the initial package Dolezal reported receiving did not bear a date stamp or bar code, which Dolezal told police when she reported it. Investigators interviewed postal workers, who said it was either very unlikely or impossible that the package could have been processed through the post office, implying that the only alternative was that it had been put there by someone with a key… Asked about the possibility that she had put the package there herself, she said, “That’s such bullshit. What mother would terrorize her own children?”

Kurt Neumaier of the Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations, where Dolezal worked for three years, now says he doubts all of her claims as to hate crimes. He also says she wasn’t properly vetted:

Neumaier said he was suspicious of several incidents Dolezal reported in Coeur d’Alene, including her discovery of a swastika on the door of the Human Rights Education Institute when the organization’s security camera was “mysteriously turned off.” “None of them passed the smell test,” he said.

She Acts as a Civilian Police Watchdog, and Stumps For #BlackLivesMatter. Appointed by the mayor of Spokane, she goes on ride-alongs with police in order to oversee them for any hint of police brutality. She serves as chairwoman of the Office of Police Ombudsman Commission; her application to that position included the self-identifiers black, white, and American Indian. Spokane City spokesman Brian Coddington admitted, “The community wanted diversity and limited background checks.” He also admitted that race “was certainly taken into account,” according to CDAPress.com. He said, “Race wasn’t a criteria in the selection process, but certainly diversity was an important part of the process.”

She is a charter member of the #BlackLivesMatter campaign, writing:

In the famous last words of Eric Garner, “I … can’t … breathe,” there is a metaphor for the asphyxiation we are experiencing as black people in America and in Spokane. The air is thinner for us now; we are not all getting the same amount of oxygen here. So don’t stop us when we reach for the oxygen mask that is hope for justice. Let us say what we need to say, march when we need to march, and hold our kids when we need to feel their hearts beat. Let us be, be with us, and let us breathe.

The mayor, David Condon, released a joint statement with Council President Ben Stuckart stating, “We are gathering facts to determine if any city policies related to volunteer boards and commissions have been violated. That information will be reviewed by the City Council, which has oversight of city boards and commissions.”

In the aftermath of the cartoonish left’s Bruce Jenner orgasm, the Rachel Dolezal story must hit like an Acme anvil dropped from the seventh story of a building. Barack Obama had a racially diverse composite girlfriend; Rachel Dolezal was the left’s composite girlfriend. She took every element of leftist stereotype – victimized woman, victimized black, international human rights crusader, diversity fighter, put-upon artist – and rolled them all into a resume. And the left rewarded her again and again: NAACP president, police oversight commission, professoriate, worshipful media attention.

And then it all came tumbling down, just because of how Rachel Dolezal decided to self-identify. We must pity her, and we must stand with her in her quest to reach self-worth via redefinition of ethnicity. After all, as President Obama said of Bruce Jenner, “It takes courage to share your story.” Even if that story is complete and utter bullshit.

That’s one of several phrases deemed a ‘microaggression’ at faculty leader training sessions initiated by University of California President Janet Napolitano

“America is the land of opportunity,” “There is only one race, the human race” and “I believe the most qualified person should get the job” are among a long list of alleged microaggressions faculty leaders of the University of California system have been instructed not to say.

These so-called microaggressions – considered examples of subconscious racism – were presented at faculty leader training sessions held throughout the 2014-15 school year at nine of the 10 UC campuses. The sessions, an initiative of UC President Janet Napolitano, aim to teach how to avoid offending students and peers, as well as how to hire a more diverse faculty.

At the gatherings, deans and department chairs across the UC system have been instructed to be careful using (read: instructed not to use) phrases such as “America is the land of opportunity” or even use forms that provide only “male” and “female” check boxes, among a long litany of supposed microaggressions listed in a document underlying the “Faculty Leadership Seminars.”

The document has drawn little scrutiny until now, when a professor in the UC system pointed it out to The College Fix. The professor chose not to attend the seminars, but myriad materials on the UC Office of the President (UCOP) website give indication as to what sort of lessons were taught there.

Other sayings deemed unacceptable include:

? “Everyone can succeed in this society, if they work hard enough.”

? “Where are you from or where were you born?”

? “Affirmative action is racist.”

? “When I look at you, I don’t see color.”

These phrases in particular are targeted because they promote the “myth of meritocracy” or represent “statements which assert that race or gender does not play a role in life successes.”

Others are said to be color blind, apparently a bad thing that indicates “that a white person does not want to or need to acknowledge race,” according to the handout, “Tool: Recognizing Microaggressions and the Messages They Send.”

In another handout, “Tool for Identifying Implicit Bias,” faculty are advised when dealing with a student or researcher that they are particularly impressed with not to express approval with compliments like “It’s clear he’s a rockstar.” The handout also describes “raising the bar” as “elitist.”

President Napolitano’s “ invitation” to deans and department chairs in January describes the half-day seminars as helping them meet their “responsibility” to create “academic climates that enable all faculty to do their best work.” The seminars are intended to help faculty identify and “interrupt” microaggressions and develop “an inclusive department/school climate,” according to the seminars’ webpage.

The seminars also taught faculty how to deal with prospective hires and existing minority faculty. According to a synopsis of the theatric production “Ready to Vote?” presented at the gatherings, a group of professors consider whether to nominate an Asian American female colleague for tenure. It’s intended to illustrate several perceived microaggressions, such as holding minority professors to higher standards than white male counterparts and not supporting their research.

Another highlight among materials for the seminars is a curious choice: a Supreme Court dissent in a decision upholding Michigan voters’ right to ban race preferences in college admissions. Its inclusion suggests to faculty that publicly approving of race-neutral admissions policies is a microaggression.

The College Fix reached out to the UC Office of the President for comment. In response to a question about how these seminars might have a chilling effect on faculty members’ ability to engage in free speech, representative Shelly Meron said in an email Tuesday that “These seminars are not an attempt to curb open dialogue, debate or classroom discussions.”

“The seminars are part of the President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program,” Meron stated. “Deans and department heads who attended the seminars could choose whether they wanted to convey the information to their faculty.”

With regard to the seemingly commonplace, innocuous quotes that are labeled microaggressions in the seminar leaflets, Meron writes:

“The quotes you referenced are taken directly from research done on this topic. We present this research literature/climate survey responses as examples so that faculty leaders can be more aware of the impact their actions or words may have on their students, and to provide faculty members with potential strategies to create an inclusive learning environment for all students.”

Many UC administrators are used to talking about promoting diversity thanks to diversity initiatives and calls to “improve campus climate” that have been legion across UC campuses in recent years. UCLA’s campus in particular has been a hotbed of activity for diversity campus crusaders.

In 2013, Carlos Moreno, a retired California Supreme Court judge, authored an exhaustive report on “Acts of Bias and Discrimination Involving Faculty” at UCLA. Just this past year, after failed attempts in 2004 and 2012, UCLA passed a highly controversial diversity class requirement that was the subject of multiple faculty votes.

An ISIS-linked jihadist attacked an FBI agent with a knife in New York City Wednesday.
NBC New York reported:

The FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested a 21-year-old Staten Island man who allegedly repeatedly tried to stab an FBI agent with a kitchen knife Wednesday as officers attempted to search his home in connection with an ongoing ISIS-related investigation involving a Queens college student arrested over the weekend, according to court documents.

Fareed Mumuni was charged Wednesday with attempting to murder an FBI agent, though no serious injuries were reported in the scuffle, conspiring to provide material support to ISIS and trying to assist the terror group in carrying out an attack in the New York area, according to the complaint.

After his arrest, Mumuni allegedly told investigators he had pledged his allegiance to ISIS and that he planned to travel overseas to join the group. If he wasn’t able to join ISIS overseas, he allegedly planned to attack law enforcement officers at home, and was coordinating that plan with others.

The attacker, once subdued, reportedly told agents he kept two knives, a pointed kitchen knife in his room and a large knife in his car, to use to attack law enforcement officers.

When his mother allowed the agents in to search the house, the man came down the stairs and lunged at an agent. Body armor the agent was wearing prevented the knife from harming him, according to WNBC-TV:

“Fareed Mumuni was charged Wednesday with attempting to murder an FBI agent, though no serious injuries were reported in the scuffle, conspiring to provide material support to ISIS and trying to assist the terror group in carrying out an attack in the New York area, according to the complaint.

“After his arrest, Mumuni allegedly told investigators he had pledged his allegiance to ISIS and that he planned to travel overseas to join the group. If he wasn’t able to join ISIS overseas, he allegedly planned to attack law enforcement officers at home, and was coordinating that plan with others.

“Mumuni’s alleged conspirators include Munther Omar Saleh, the 20-year-old college student from Queens arrested over the weekend for allegedly scouting possible targets for an ISIS-inspired attack. Court documents say Saleh also charged law enforcement officers with a knife when he saw them conducting surveillance of him and another alleged conspirator Saturday. No one was hurt.”

…”Authorities went to Mumuni’s home Wednesday to execute a search warrant in the case when Mumuni allegedly attacked them. Court papers say the suspect’s mother and sister opened the door to let law enforcement officers in, and when they entered, Mumuni walked down the main staircase.

“Officers ordered him to move to a couch in the living room and Mumuni refused, then allegedly lunged at the agents with a kitchen knife. He repeatedly tried to stab one officer as others attempted to restrain him, court papers say. None of the stabs penetrated the agent’s body armor.

“After Mumuni’s arrest, his mother allowed agents to search his car, where investigators found a bag containing another large kitchen knife, court papers say. After his arrest, he allegedly told FBI agents Wednesday’s attack on the officers was premeditated and that he kept the knife used to attack the agent wrapped in a T-shirt in his bed for just such an occasion. He said he also stowed the knife found in his mother’s car for a potential encounter with law enforcement, the complaint says.

“Court papers say Mumuni also admitted to talking about building a pressure cooker bomb with Saleh.”

Terrorism Rampaging Under Obonzo Says State Department Report

Terror attacks, deaths up sharply in 2014: State Department

WASHINGTON By Warren Strobel
WASHINGTON Terrorist attacks worldwide surged by more than a third and fatalities soared by 81 percent in 2014, a year that also saw Islamic State eclipse al Qaeda as the leading jihadist militant group, the U.S. State Department said on Friday.

In its annual report on terrorism, the department also charts an unprecedented flow of foreign fighters to Syria, often lured by Islamic State's use of social media and drawn from diverse social backgrounds.

Taken together, the trends point to a sobering challenge from militant groups worldwide to the United States and its allies despite severe blows inflicted on al Qaeda, author of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in Washington and New York.

Al Qaeda's leaders "appeared to lose momentum as the self-styled leader of a global movement in the face of ISIL's rapid expansion and proclamation of a Caliphate," the report said, using an alternate acronym for Islamic State.

Last June, Islamic State attacked from its base in Syria and seized vast swaths of Iraq, much of which it still controls.

"The ongoing civil war in Syria has been a spur to the worldwide terrorism events," the State Department's coordinator for counterterrorism, Tina Kaidanow, told a news conference.

She said that while the United States still worried about al Qaeda, the growing concern was the number of groups aligning themselves with Islamic State across the globe.

"There is an appeal of ISIS globally," Kaidanow added, using another acronym for the group.

U.S. President Barack Obama responded with air strikes in Iraq and Syria, and a program to train Iraqi security forces. He has also continued air strikes against militant suspects worldwide, included one this week that killed al Qaeda's deputy chief.

The State Department report, which covers calendar year 2014, said there were 13,463 terrorist attacks, a 35 percent jump from 2013, resulting in more than 32,700 deaths, an 81 percent rise. More than 9,400 people were kidnapped or taken hostage by militants, triple the rate of the previous year, it said.

There was some good news: Militant activity decreased in some countries, including Pakistan, the Philippines, Nepal and Russia.

The report said the global increase in terrorist attacks was mostly due to events in Iraq, Afghanistan and Nigeria.

Kaidanow said weak or failed governments allowed terrorist groups to thrive in places such as Yemen, Syria, Libya, Nigeria and Iraq.

Islamic State was particularly lethal. A June 2014 attack on a prison in Mosul, Iraq, in which the group killed 670 Shi'ite Muslim prisoners "was the deadliest attack worldwide since September 11, 2001," it said.

As of late December, more than 16,000 foreign terrorist fighters had traveled to Syria, exceeding the rate of those who traveled to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen or Somalia "at any point in the last 20 years," the report said.

Last month, a senior State Department official said the army of foreign fighters who traveled to Syria had grown further, to 22,000.
