I think Carlin makes the case well: It is downright arrogant to think for a minute that we make any difference. It is a big, resilient place and nothing we do -- including environmentalism -- is going to make any difference.

I don't maintain that we should try to wreck the place, but the reality is that we couldn't if we wanted to. We can cut down all the trees, but they're coming back. Like it or not. And over time, we create better materials and trees just won't have the value they used to have.

The planet can take care of itself and will do so.
