Growing and getting more popular != successful

As for China spending $300bil

1 - That's not per year, not even remotely close to that.

2 - China's density, city pattern (with a bunch of large cities along one coast), and less developed air travel means high speed rail can make a bit more sense.

3 - A lot of that is a big money waster for China.

4 - And its less safe then rail in the US despite all the money thrown at it.
