Warren Hits Back Hard on 'Broken Promises' of Corporate Trade Pacts

Report concludes that, despite pledges, US has routinely failed to protect worker rights under so-called 'free trade' deals

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) took decisive aim at President Barack Obama's pending global trade pacts on Monday with the release of a new report, which argues that—despite pledges to the contrary—so-called "free trade" agreements have a record of undermining workers rights.

The 15-page staff report, Broken Promises: Decades of Failure to Enforce Labor Standards in Free Trade Agreements (pdf), contends that under previous agreements, the United States has repeatedly either failed to enforce or adopts unenforceable labor standards resulting in widespread labor-related human rights abuses.

"Supporters of past trade agreements have said again and again that these deals would include strong protections for workers, but assurances without strong enforcement are just empty promises," Senator Warren said in a press statement. "The facts show that, despite all the promises, these trade deals were just another tool to tilt the playing field in further of multinational corporations and against working families."

The report argues that statements made by Obama that the pending Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) will be "the most progressive trade agreement in history," will likely follow other "broken promises."

"From NAFTA and CAFTA to the recent deals with Peru, Colombia, Panama and South Korea, proponents of these trade agreements have—again, and again, and again—made nearly identical promises," the report states. However, the analysis concludes that "rhetoric does not match reality."

Citing analyses from the Government Accountability Office, the State Department, and the Department of Labor, that report charges that under Obama's watch, trade pacts have ushered in a host of abuses, from child labor to intimidation and violence against union organizers.

In a much-publicized feud with the president, Warren has largely led the campaign against the 12-nation TPP, the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), and the Fast Track Trade Authority, which would restrict Congressional input on a global trade deal to an up or down vote. Obama has largely dismissed many of Warren's criticisms of the deal as "dishonest," "bunk" and "misinformation."

In an interview with NPR last week, Warren explained her primary objections to the TPP, highlighting the roll that the investor-state dispute mechanism (ISDS) plays in worsening labor violations.

"We know that corporations under this deal are going to get to sue countries for regulations they don't like and that the decisions are not going to be made by courts, they're going to be made by private lawyers," Warren said.

She continued:

If there's a labor violation, if somebody doesn't stick with the human rights promises they made, the consequence of that is not that they get to go to a private group, and get special enforcement. Nope, they gotta go to their own government and try to get it enforced.

[T]he corporate lawyers figured out how to make [ISDS] very valuable for big corporations.

What really happens here is that big, multi-national corporations can look around and say "I don't like those regulations. I could make more money if I could beat down new regulations."

After back-tracking on an earlier decision and, as many charge, caving to pressure from the White House, Senate Democrats last Thursday voted to bring debate over the Fast Track authority to the floor.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said that he expects fast-track legislation to pass the Senate this week before Congress adjourns for a week-long holiday.

Has anyone noticed that everything Crusty Clinton is involved with has a stink to it? Lies, deceit, hidden this-and-that, deception, disaster and death (Benghazi), Rose Law Firm, Whitewater, Watergate, Libyan war, Muslim Brotherhood, etc. This goes way back to the early 70's and continues all through Crusty’s public and private life.

For example, Hillary was FIRED from the Watergate Commission by DEMOCRAT Jerry Zeifman. His reasoning: “She was a liar… She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

Endless stink.

Even a low level computer nerd knows full well that Hillary may have deleted e-mails in the thousands BUT hard copies have been retained by the recipients; and they are primed to use them as blackmail should “The Beast” get elected POTUS in 2016. Where is the coverage on that revelation? In this light, not even counting all the rest of her scandals, anyone who would vote for Hillary is either a mindless Drone or an outright traitor.

Admiral: Russia Blackmailed Bill Clinton Over Lewinsky

Article

At the Iowa National Security Action Summit on Saturday, co-hosted by the Center for Security Policy and the Family Leader Foundation, Admiral James “Ace” Lyons (U.S. Navy, Ret.) -- a four-star admiral and former Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Senior U.S. Military Representative to the United Nations, and Deputy Chief of Naval Operations -- was speaking in the context of Hillary Clinton’s infamous e-mails when he made the following statement about Russia potentially blackmailing Bill Clinton over his affair with Monica Lewinsky:

Quote

One more thing I want to cover. Hillary's e-mails. Hillary, the pathological liar. Now, you gotta understand, you heard all about cyber warfare and so forth. Every one of our enemies, Russia, China, Cuba, Iran, everybody. They've hacked in to that unsecured server. She's totally compromised. She's damaged goods. There's no way she can be allowed to get in that White House.

I'll tell you one other thing. You know the Russians are the best in the world at this. They tapped in to Bill Clinton's phone lines and they knew about Monica long before you did. Now let me tell you the way they used it. Russia was in desperate financial shape. They needed 26 billion dollars out of the IMF. Larry Summers of our National Archives fame was our Treasury Secretary, dead set against it, everybody was set against it, until suddenly -- through Strobe Talbott -- who the Russians let Strobe know that they knew about Monica, Bill Clinton found it within himself to approve the transfer, and what got transferred was 4.6 billion dollars in hard cash that disappeared.

Hillary’s Closest Adviser Is Hiding The Truth Of Her emails

New York Post
By Paul Sperry
May 17, 2015 | 6:00am

Excerpt:

If Congress really wants to get to the bottom of Hillary Clinton’s missing Benghazi and pay-to-play emails, it should call her consigliere Cheryl D. Mills to testify — under oath, and under the klieg lights.

A hearing featuring Clinton will be a wasted show trial with a lot of political grandstanding.

But Mills, who served as the former secretary of state’s chief of staff and counselor, knows where the bodies are buried. After all, Hillary tasked her with “identifying and preserving all emails that could potentially be federal records.”

And, presumably, deleting.

Mills has a long track record of hiding Clinton documents.

Since the 1990s, Mills has been at Hillary’s side — first as a White House lawyer, then as her closest and most loyal adviser at the State Department, and now as a key member of the Clinton Foundation board, which is under fire for raking in hundreds of millions of dollars from dubious foreign sources in alleged influence-peddling deals.

The job of damage control has fallen to Mills through a parade of scandals. Her lack of cooperation is legendary. In fact, she’s been officially accused of both perjury and obstruction of justice.

Sworn affidavits, depositions and court rulings, as well as congressional reports and testimony, paint a picture of, to put it charitably, a brazenly dishonest cover-up specialist.

Among her shenanigans:

As White House deputy counsel, Mills ordered Commerce Department officials to “withhold” from investigators emails and other documents detailing then-President Bill Clinton’s and first lady Hillary Clinton’s allegedly illegal selling of seats on foreign trade junkets for campaign cash, according to sworn statements by Commerce’s former FOIA chief.

*snip*

Sweating Mills could crack the case wide open. Otherwise, Hillary could walk away unscathed, waltz right back into the White House — and Mills could end up running it as chief of staff.

Gov. Sarah Palin: "Jihad Is On The March"

..............................................................................................
Conservatives 4 Palin ^ | May 18th, 2015 | iizthatiiz

It's unfortunate and potentially frightening knowing that everywhere you look today jihad is on the march – even on American soil. Warnings for potential terrorist attacks on our homeland are now stepped up, and with the arrest of dozens of Americans on terrorism related charges, the message is clear that no place seems safe from jihad.

Our military personnel and law enforcement agencies have to be right every time, but the terrorists only have to get “lucky” once to do horrible damage to our country. The threat of radical Islam is real, and it must not be allowed to be ignored.

With the recent capture of Ramadi, ISIS has scored a key victory that is more than symbolic as this death cult takes land that Americans spilled blood and treasure to secure. Make no mistake that this situation could have been avoided had the Obama administration heeded the warnings of military brass that urged them to keep a residual force in Iraq to maintain the peace that America and our allies fought so hard for.

But it’s never too late to do the right thing. That means getting serious about defeating ISIS at the source while remaining ever vigilant at home. As always, our foreign policy must be rooted in the motto Peace Through Strength. For your part, friends, I encourage you to keep in perspective the issues-of-the-day that media chooses to report on. Demand our leaders and the press keep national priorities straight, and don't allow fear to dictate our actions and change our way of life. To cower in fear is to let the enemy win. So stay vigilant, take personal responsibility for the safety of ourselves and our property, support our troops, and learn through history that we only remain free by being brave.

May God's hand of protection remain on this country that has dedicated herself to Him.

- Sarah Palin
