jim, << getting out of drams >>

The design technology for drams is a no-brainer, therefore every
3rd world country there is can produce them if they have the capital
for fabs. It's tough to compete against their wage structure. 1st
TI went joint venture with asia, but evidentally competition is still
to strong and except for Taiwan and Japan, there's serious governmental problems. The sale will generate great cash for future
DSP growth. I believe Tom wants TI to be to DSP as Intel is to
microprocessors.
Back when Tom became CEO he pretty much committed to dumping
sectors that can't generate good income. It was a strong pull away
from Junkin's diversivication strategy. Anyone who believes the
COB is a threesome, just look at the changes made. I'm sure it
sheds day to day responsibilities from Tom, but it's clear who
pilots the 'ENTERPRISE', pun intended. I look for more DSP related
acquisitions with the gained capital. Why train when you can buy?!
