Karl Rove LIES to Face of Veteran After Being Asked For Iraq Apology [VIDEO]

American citizens spend Memorial Day remembering the men and women who have paid the ultimate price in the service of America’s military branches. Our armed forces promise to protect us and ask only that we don’t send them into harm’s way without a just cause. We failed these servicemen and women during the Iraq War, and Karl Rove played a large role in that failure. That is what makes the following video so disheartening.

KARL ROVE REFUSES TO APOLOGIZE FOR IRAQ WARKarl Rove made a trip to the University of Connecticut on March 31 for a speaking engagement. For those who don’t know, Rove was a senior adviser for George W. Bush and worked in the White House Iraq Group, which amounted to little more than a propaganda machine, to sell Americans on the idea of invading Iraq. Considering the key role he played in getting us into the conflict, his answer to this military veteran is especially sickening.

The war veteran speaking in the video was Ryan Henowitz. After recounting some of the horrors he endured during the pointless Iraq war, he flat-out questioned Rove:

“I have taken responsibility for my actions and dealt with my demons while advocating for a peaceful resolution of a war that was an act of aggression with no clear goal. Can you take responsibility and apologize for your decision in sending a generation to lose their humanity and deal with the horrors of war, which you have never had the courage to face?”

Henowitz could have taken a moment to point out that a Senate report released in June 2008 found that the Bush White House used intelligence that they knew to be faulty to trick Americans into supporting an unprovoked invasion. We can’t fault him, though; he obviously had a lot on his mind. This was Rove’s reply:

“It was the right thing to do. I appreciate your service for our country. I’m sorry for what you went through but it was the right thing to remove Saddam Hussein from power.”

So as he looked an American veteran of the Iraq War square in the eye, he refused to apologize for his role in selling a lie to Americans which resulted in 4,493 U.S. military deaths and around 140,000 civilian deaths in Iraq. In fact, he even doubled down and stated that, after being sent to find non-existent weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), our servicemen and women should still be in Iraq.

“We should have stayed there and remained there like the Iraqis wanted us to. We would not have seen the rise if ISIS, would not have seen the displacement of millions of people in the country and we would not have seen the death of hundreds of thousands of people simply because they believed in Jesus Christ or were [inaudible] or were Shia.”

Fortunately, those with any grasp of history — or common sense for that matter — know that this attempt to blame President Obama for ISIS is bogus. In fact, a young college student recently took Jeb Bush to task when he also attempted to blame Obama for instability in Iraq.

Additionally, a recent in-depth analysis found that the policies of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki were the main contributor to the rise of ISIS. How did al-Maliki come to power? Oh yeah, Bush’s illegal invasion. So why is Rove still pressing this deluded thought that the Iraq invasion was the right thing to do? Well… he has been known to stick by his own delusions come Hell or high water. For example:

In 2003, Rove told James Kimsey, a man who had just returned from Iraq, that “it must have been wonderful to see the happy faces on all those liberated Iraqis.” When Kimsey replied that there were no happy faces, Rove simply said “Nice talking to you” and walked off.On election night in 2012, Karl Rove was speaking with Megyn Kelly on Fox News as it became overly apparent that President Obama had won a second term in office. Even against undeniable facts, though, Rove refused to believe that Obama had won. So much so, in fact, that he got this little gem from Kelly, “Is this just math you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better?“In fact, enjoy this little video of the second incident:

Definitely a memorable moment, but one thing really stands out to me. It came from Rove’s response to the 32-year-old veteran he refused to admit any wrongdoing to.

“We should be proud of what we were able to do in Iraq…”

This precluded more President Obama blaming, but that quote stands in stark contrast to logic. There’s absolutely nothing to be proud about in Iraq. We took a dictator who we had relative control over, and we put in place leaders who couldn’t earn their citizens’ respect or fear. We put an ineffective government in place that’s slowly falling to militants. We took a bad country, and we shoved it into the 7th circle of Hell.

And we added thousands of more lives to the list of those we remember on this Memorial Day. It would sicken me to hear Rove, Bush, Rumsfield or anyone else who took part in the Iraq lie wish someone a “Happy Memorial Day.” The only thing these people have done to contribute to Memorial Day is ensuring that we never run out of servicemen and women to remember on this somber day.

Long before he was president, Barack Obama spoke out against the war in Iraq. Years later, he made a statement that he and every future president should live by:

“I can promise you I will never [send our troops into harm’s way] unless it’s absolutely necessary, and that when we do, we must give our troops a clear mission and the full support of a grateful nation.”

There was no clear mission in Iraq, and what in the world could be any less “absolutely necessary” than that? Yet Karl Rove refused to apologize to the countless families he had a hand in destroying. This Memorial Day, let us not just remember those who died while fighting in military operations. Let us resolve ourselves to never again make the same mistake which led to so many pointless deaths.

Let us prove that they meant something to us by never again giving a position of power to a person who knows that what he did was wrong, but who will continue defending his choices until no one is left to listen.

All gave some. Some gave all.” And some helped Dick Cheney get rich and George W. get revenge on the dictator who tried to have his daddy killed.
