Mr. Non-franchise Beanery

Throughout the decline of Corel, Andrew MacIntosh of the Ottawa Citizen has written with clarity and insight regarding the company. I get the impression that he follows our speculations on this thread pretty closely. <GGG>

Is Michael Cowpland the one to do it?

Nobody has yet publicly called for Mr. Cowpland to step down as Corel's chief executive, a move that would allow him to remain company chairman. Ha Ha! We're not public here.

In this latest article he somehow manages to pin S3 down as a software company, a designation that had totally escaped my attention given that S3 designs and manufactures chips for graphics accelerators. His analysis of the financial parallels is appropriate.

They cite Corel's unfocused business strategy, the stuffing of its channels with $100 million in unsold product and Mr. Cowpland's overly optimistic and unrealistic statements about Corel's future financial performance.

Somebody is listening to us and agreeing with what we say.

How 'bout that?

Leo

P.S. Do they have beaneries in Ottawa or is it more a Boston thing?
