Islamic State destroys famous lion god statue in Palmyra
......................................................................................................................
Jihad Watch ^ | 5/28/15 | Robert Spencer

Still pursuing al-Lat after all these years. “The statue was dedicated to the pre-Islamic Arabian goddess Al-Lat, who was one of the three chief goddesses of Mecca along with Manat and al-Uzza.”

The Qur’an says: “So have you considered al-Lat and al-Uzza? And Manat, the third, the other one? Is the male for you and for Him the female? That, then, is an unjust division.” (53:19-22) This passage is ridiculing the idea that these three goddesses are the daughters of Allah, for that would mean that the deity only had daughters while human being have sons, who were assumed to be superior to daughters — that would have been “an unjust division.” The three goddesses of Muhammad’s tribe, the Quraysh of Mecca, were overthrown by Islam, but it is not insignificant that the Islamic State did the most damage to the lion of al-Lat.

Incidentally, that passage in the Qur’an’s 53rd sura is the only trace left of the celebrated “Satanic Verses.” Long before the novel of the same name by Salman Rushdie, this term referred to an incident recorded in Islamic tradition, in which Muhammad tried to achieve reconciliation with the Quraysh by a “revelation” in which he declared, “So have you considered al-Lat and al-Uzza? And Manat, the third, the other one? They are the exalted cranes (gharaniq), worthy of veneration.” The Quraysh, hearing this, prostrated to Allah with the Muslims, who accepted the three goddesses as Allah’s daughters. But Muhammad soon realized that he had thus compromised the absolute monotheism that he had preached up to that point, and so he reneged, and claimed that Satan, not Allah, had inspired those verses, which were then duly replaced by the “revelation” recorded in Qur’an 53:19-22. The concept of abrogation, which ultimately led to the idea that the Qur’an’s violent passages take precedence over its peaceful ones, justified this change in still another “revelation”: “We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten except that We bring forth better than it or similar to it. Do you not know that Allah is over all things competent?” (Qur’an 2:106)

“ISIS ‘destroys’ famous lion god statue in captured Syrian city of Palmyra… just days after promising locals they would not obliterate ancient monuments,” by John Hall, MailOnline, May 28, 2015 (thanks to Jerk Chicken):

Militants fighting for the Islamic State have reportedly destroyed a famous statue of a lion in the captured city of Palmyra – despite promising locals they would not obliterate the ancient city.

Following their capture of Palmyra last Thursday, ISIS militants are understood to have won the support of much of the local population by promising not to destroy the city’s famous monuments.

But it appears that promise was too much for the jihadis to keep, with eyewitnesses claiming they destruction of millenia-old Statues and buildings is already very much under way, with the most significant loss so far being the celebrated Lion of Al-Lat, which dates back to the first century AD.

The lion statue was destroyed by ISIS militants on Saturday, according to the International Business Time, who quoted eyewitnesses on the ground in Palmyra.

‘I heard a loud noise, so I went up to the roof to see what is going on,’ one local man said.

‘I saw Daash crushing the ‘god lion’ statue with construction machines. There were many other crushed statues but I could not recognise the rest of them because they were totally ruined,’ he added, using an Arabic acronym for the terror group.

The act of destroying the statue came just days after ISIS gathered Palmyra’s citizens together and publicly promised not to bulldoze the city’s ancient buildings, as they previously did in Nimrod.

‘As for the historical monuments, we will not touch it with our bulldozers as some tend to believe,’ ISIS commander Abu Leith was quoted as saying on a local radio broadcast.

However the promise did come with a get-out clause, as the depraved fighters insisted they would ‘pulverise’ any statues they discovered in the city that the believed citizens secretly prayed to.

The lion statue in Palmyra dates from the first century AD and stood outside the city’s famous Temple of Bel.

The statue was dedicated to the pre-Islamic Arabian goddess Al-Lat, who was one of the three chief goddesses of Mecca along with Manat and al-Uzza.

The Temple of Bel itself was built in 32 AD – six hundred years before the arrival of Islam in Syria – and was dedicated to the Semitic god Bel – who was worshiped by Palmyra citizens along with the lunar god Aglibol and the sun god Yarhibol.

Since ISIS seized control of Palmyra, the temple and its surrounding area have been appropriated by ISIS militants, who are said to be using it as a military base.

Locals who preserved the site for the last 1,900 years are now said to be banned from entering the area unless the are willing to sign up to become ISIS jihadis….

1,900-year-old Lion of Al-Lat statue:

“There can be no god before Allah.”

Thne shout Allah Snackbar, or something...

If Western Civilization believed enough in itself as being worth saving, it would see that these ancient origins are worth saving as well, and act accordingly. The declining remnants of the West no longer care even about their own survival.

Thanks, Obama!

The west is only interested in appeasement now.

why is Obama not in prison?

Another result of electing the ISIS supporters in DC.

Actions have consequences.

“why is Obama not in prison??”

....because he controls the Just Us Department.

Animals.

Obama can go to hell.

Isn’t it GREAT that Conservatives threw temper tantrums about Romney, and stayed home not voting??

Obama and ISIS thank them for that.

Luxurious Life As First Lady Takes Toll On Michelle Obama Because She Is Black, She Complains
.................................................................................................................
Daily Caller ^ | 05/10/2015 | Eric Owens

Globetrotting, Ivy League-educated, Marchesa gown-wearing first lady Michelle Obama’s commencement address at Tuskegee University on Saturday described the trials and tribulations she believes she has faced as the first black first lady in American history.

The intense media scrutiny, occasional critical and disparaging remarks — it’s all too much and she said it has led to sleepless nights either in the White House or in posh, five-star hotels where she and her retinue stay, according to The Hill.

“You might remember the on-stage celebratory fist bump between me and my husband after a primary win that was referred to as a ‘terrorist fist jab,'” she told graduates of the private, historically black science- and engineering-heavy school in Alabama.

“And over the years, folks have used plenty of interesting words to describe me. One said I exhibited ‘a little bit of uppity-ism,'” Obama said. “Another noted that I was one of my husband’s ‘cronies of color.’ Cable news once charmingly referred to me as ‘Obama’s Baby Mama.'”

The international jetsetter, a graduate of both Princeton University and Harvard Law School, also complained that she feels she endured a set of expectations during her husband Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign that was different than the expectations for other would-be presidential wives.

(RELATED: Remember When Obama Was The Messiah?)

Specifically, she believes the questions she faced as a potential first lady were overly invasive.

“As potentially the first African-American first lady, I was also the focus of another set of questions and speculations; conversations sometimes rooted in the fears and misperceptions of others. Was I too loud, or too angry, or too emasculating? Or was I too soft, too much of a mom, not enough of a career woman?” Obama said, according to The Hill.

Obama said she and her husband, the president of the United States and arguably the most powerful man in the world, have faced “frustrating” racism, which is “a heavy burden to carry.”

“We’ve both felt the sting of those daily slights throughout our entire lives,” she griped.

Obama additionally observed that the Tuskegee Airmen, the legendary regiment of black World War II pilots, faced degrading racial insults but overcame the racial mistreatment to achieve heroism.

The first lady urged Tuskegee University graduates never “to succumb to feelings of despair and anger.”

Along with President Obama and the couple’s two children (and occasionally her mother), Michelle Obama has made sure to spend plenty of taxpayer dollars on an impressive run of sweet luxury vacations.

In January, the president and first lady Michelle Obama traveled at taxpayer expense to beautiful, exotic India. The trip included a romantic visit to the Taj Mahal, perhaps the world’s most famous architectural testament of love — a gleaming, white marble mausoleum constructed under the orders of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

Back in March 2014, the whole Obama clan faced the prospect of cutting a mini-vacation in sunny Key Largo, Fla. short because of Russia’s meddling in Ukraine. It was sad, too, because the first family wanted some rest and relaxation away from the cold, snowy doldrums of Washington, D.C.

That same month, Michelle Obama and the first daughters Malia and Sasha jetted off to China for over a week of much-needed sightseeing. (RELATED: Globetrotting Michelle Obama Announces Luxurious Vacation To China)

As of July 2014, the Obama family had already spent a whopping $44,351,777.12 in taxpayer funds on vacations. That dollar amount is obviously substantially higher now.

In 2008, then-candidate Obama promised gullible New York Times columnist Bob Herbert that he would not take vacations if he were elected president.

Marilyn Mosby to Perform in Baltimore Circus (Not Satire)
..................................................................................................................
pjmedia ^ | May 28, 2015 | Debra Heine

Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby’s high-profile prosecution against the six officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray may have devolved into what could arguably be described as a three-ring circus, but she and her husband, city councilman Nick Mosby, are literally going to be guest ringmasters in a traveling black circus that is visiting Baltimore this weekend.

Via The Root:

This comes on the heels of Marilyn Mosby’s appearance onstage with music legend Prince for his #Rally4Peace concert, which drew criticism a few weeks ago. She is also being accused of bias by pro-law-enforcement critics for her close ties to the community. But the real issue is, what’s appropriate and what’s not appropriate in the lead-up to prosecuting a high-profile case of police brutality? What’s appropriate regarding a case that spawned nationwide protests and several days of civil unrest?

According to the councilman’s office, Nick Mosby and his wife, Marilyn, were invited to be special guests of the UniverSoul Circus prior to Gray’s death. It was “in the works way back,” Candance Green, Councilman Mosby’s press liaison, told The Root. And inviting community leaders to be guest ringmasters is nothing new for the community-focused UniverSoul Circus, which enlists local figures to be part of the show. Its current show has the theme “Your Life Matters,” intentionally or unintentionally mirroring the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

“This is something they do around the country,” Green said. “They choose leaders who make an impact in the community.”

In the current racially charged climate where Mosby’s critics are calling on her to recuse herself due to bias and conflicts of interest, an appearance at a traveling black circus with a theme that mirrors #BlackLivesMatter would not seem to be the best choice.

She is looking less like an impartial evaluator of the case, and more like a #BlackLivesMatter activist.

The Age Of Disinformation
.........................................................................................................
medium.com@spann/the-age-of-disinformation-98d55837d7d9

I have been a professional meteorologist for 36 years. Since my debut on television in 1979, I have been an eyewitness to the many changes in technology, society, and how we communicate. I am one who embraces change, and celebrates the higher quality of life we enjoy now thanks to this progress.

But, at the same time, I realize the instant communication platforms we enjoy now do have some negatives that are troubling. Just a few examples in recent days…

I would say hundreds of people have sent this image to me over the past 24 hours via social media.

Comments are attached… like “This is a cloud never seen before in the U.S.”… “can’t you see this is due to government manipulation of the weather from chemtrails”… “no doubt this is a sign of the end of the age”.

Let’s get real. This is a lenticular cloud. They have always been around, and quite frankly aren’t that unusual (although it is an anomaly to see one away from a mountain range). The one thing that is different today is that almost everyone has a camera phone, and almost everyone shares pictures of weather events. You didn’t see these often in earlier decades because technology didn’t allow it. Lenticular clouds are nothing new. But, yes, they are cool to see.

No doubt national news media outlets are out of control when it comes to weather coverage, and their idiotic claims find their way to us on a daily basis.

The Houston flooding is a great example. We are being told this is “unprecedented”… Houston is “under water”… and it is due to manmade global warming.

Yes, the flooding in Houston yesterday was severe, and a serious threat to life and property. A genuine weather disaster that has brought on suffering.

But, no, this was not “unprecedented”. Flooding from Tropical Storm Allison in 2001 was more widespread, and flood waters were deeper. There is no comparison. In fact, many circulated this image in recent days, claiming it is “Houston underwater” from the flooding of May 25–26, 2015. The truth is that this image was captured in June 2001 during flooding from Allison.

Flood events in 2009, 2006, 1998, 1994, 1989, 1983, and 1979 brought higher water levels to most of Houston, and there were many very serious flood events before the 1970s.

On the other issue, the entire climate change situation has become politicized, which I hate. Those on the right, and those on the left hang out in “echo chambers”, listening to those with similar world views refusing to believe anything else could be true.

Everyone knows the climate is changing; it always has, and always will. I do not know of a single “climate denier”. I am still waiting to meet one.

The debate involves the anthropogenic impact, and this is not why I am writing this piece. Let’s just say the Houston flood this week is weather, and not climate, and leave it at that.

I do encourage you to listen to the opposing point of view in the climate debate, but be sure the person you hear admits they can be wrong, and has no financial interest in the issue. Unfortunately, those kind of qualified people are very hard to find these days. It is also hard to find people that discss climate without using the words “neocon” and “libtard”. I honestly can’t stand politics; it is tearing this nation apart.

Back to my point… many professional meteorologists feel like we are fighting a losing battle when it comes to national media and social media hype and disinformation. They will be sure to let you know that weather events they are reporting on are “unprecedented”, there are “millions and millions in the path”, it is caused by a “monster storm”, and “the worst is yet to come” since these events are becoming more “frequent”.

You will never hear about the low tornado count in recent years, the lack of major hurricane landfalls on U.S. coasts over the past 10 years, or the low number of wildfires this year. It doesn’t fit their story. But, never let facts get in the way of a good story…. there will ALWAYS be a heat wave, flood, wildfire, tornado, tyhpoon, cold wave, and snow storm somewhere. And, trust me, they will find them, and it will probably lead their newscasts. But, users beware…

Faggot New Orleans Restaurant Critic Dances for Politically Correct

Huck Finn's waiter's racist action did damage to New Orleans

Tourists react to a Huck Finn's Cafe waiter printing a racial slur on a customer's receipt Huck Finn's Cafe on Decatur Street in the French Quarter is under fire after a racial slur was printed on a customer's receipt Thursday (May 21) afternoon. An employee was fired after the incident, and some tourists said they were shocked by what happened.

By Brett Anderson, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune May 28, 2015
nola.com

There are countless reasons to be outraged by last week's revelations that a waiter at Huck Finn's, a French Quarter restaurant, thought it appropriate to print the N-word on a receipt delivered to a table of African-American diners.

Debate over whether the racial invective was an "isolated incident" has raged online for a week. While I find it difficult not to question a working environment that allowed for an employee to use the company point of sale system as a forum for bathroom wall graffiti, the truth of whether the act was an aberration is immaterial to the issue of the message sent in the dining room and beyond. (Ask the folks up at Ole Miss about the effectiveness of dismissing last year's student noose "prank" as an isolated incident.)

The Huck Finn's news went viral. How could it not? The offense in question did not appear in a rap song or between the covers of an immortal 19th century novel. It appeared on the legal document that officially consummated a business transaction conducted within the four walls of the very type of institution where segregation was brought to its bloody knees.

Lesser vulgarities become bigger news on an hourly basis, and this one isn't likely to fade from public view soon. Liryca Neville, the recipient of the receipt and a member of the world-famous New Orleans music family, said during a press conference on May 19 that she was considering filing legal action against Huck Finn's.

But I ask you to consider here the damage to New Orleans itself.

I recently returned from a long weekend's vacation. The bulk of it was spent in a part of the country foreign to my wife and me. We went there to spend time together, not to meet new people, and, as a result, the total time we devoted to interacting with our fellow travelers and vacationers can be measured in minutes.

We still spent a lot of time interacting with citizens from the area. I met a hotel manager with a particular interest in the Hudson River School art movement and a van driver who thinks it's criminal that the Moody Blues aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The most lasting impression was made by the waitress of an understaffed, overpriced pub and grill that we returned to for a second night, in large part because we admired her efforts, under trying circumstances, to execute her job with professionalism and grace.

The strong character imprint all of these people left is one I will now forever associate with the region they represented to me: the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, which I knew next to nothing about before last weekend.

It was just my most recent reminder that hospitality professionals shoulder unofficial but very real and consequential ambassadorial responsibilities. In no region of the United States is this more true than in New Orleans. What other city's economic vitality and civic identity are as tightly fused with its reputation for delivering exceptional hospitality?

It was the impulse to preserve this reputation that caused so many New Orleans officials, including Mayor Mitch Landrieu, to denounce Gov. Bobby Jindal's Marriage and Conscience Order. In a letter published in The New York Times, Landrieu wrote, referring to Jindal's executive order, "...it's not who we are."

A French Quarter restaurant said an employee who printed a racial slur on a customer's receipt Thursday (May 21) has been fired. In this image of the receipt, the racial slur and an employee's name have been removed. Twitter
The actions of elected officials obviously have broader ramifications than those of regular citizens, but to dismiss the Huck Finn's waiter's expression of hate as insignificant is a gross miscalculation of the power, both symbolic and real, that he abused.

JoAnn Clevenger, the nationally respected owner of the Upperline, has worked in the New Orleans hospitality industry, including in French Quarter bars, for over half a century. "People in the hospitality business have so much power to influence other peoples' lives," she said, "and to use it for good means we can be a countervailing force in the world against greed and evil. I do believe that. It's a big gift we have."

Clevenger continued, "It's rare in our society to be able to influence others. In the hospitality industry, the actions you take resonate in a way that very few actions we take as individuals resonate. You can practice good manners and be polite in your day-to-day life, but the impact is limited. In restaurants, we touch so many people. Everything we do or say is multiplied, whether or not what we do or say is negative or positive."

Danny Meyer, the influential New York restaurateur, has written widely about his philosophy of service. In a 2002 issue of Gourmet magazine, he summarized his working definition of hospitality as what happens "when the people for whom you are providing it believe you are on their side."

The message the Huck Finn's waiter gave to Neville was more than an "inconvenience," to use a word from the restaurant's initial response. He used his position of power to hurt, and he did it from the womb of a place that is charged with upholding New Orleans' truest and best self.
