Does the Intel change to wire bond from flip-chip impact KLIC's margins? What is the cost and margin on each type of equipment (versus throughput). I wonder if this is viewed as hurting profits, (using the lower tech solution vs higher tech/cost). I will try to answer this question also.

The post was very informative. Thanks for posting. In order to reduce package/assembly/ die cost, Intel has moved back to wirebond from flipchip on their strip down version of Pentinum II. I bet that in order to use flipchip, the chip had to be must bigger.

With Intel attacking sub $1,000 PC market this way, AMD must react in kind. AMD must redesign its K6 to use wirebond to reduce cost.

IMHO, two years from now, only mass produced flipchip device with high pin count(I/O > 300) may be Intel's new processor, Merced.

Long term, KLIC will be a good stock to own. But let's just hope my Jan $25 option will something by expiration time.
