Doug:

< ....w/out multipath reception, I* reception indoors will often be spotty, w/dropped connections, etc..>

Seems to me the relative performance of I* and G* for indoor users may NOT be quite as straight forward as you seem to imply !!

For example, are you assuming the link margins for the two systems are the same? Don't think they are;

Keep in mind also, you can't complete an incoming call unless the indoor handset first receives the incoming page signal to initiate the call in the first place; Consider that I* link margin for its paging signal may often be much better than that for G*;

Consider also that I* will have some path loss advantages in some scenarios given its lower LEO orbit altitude;

It would be interesting to learn more design/performance specifics which would better clarify relative standing of the two systems regarding this particular issue;

Dougin: Where are you getting your info.. Both I* and G* have acknowledged that they will have difficulties penetrating cement and steel constructed buildings. Neither of them is even attempting to do this, they will both tie into land based systems and then go into the buildings. For what it is worth, everything that I have read states that TDMA, as a "shouter" is better at penetrating these structures.
You told Fledermaus that he or she is "ignoring some important G* advantages". You only mentioned one, and it was wrong. What are the others?
