David Brooks: 'Obama Has Run An Amazingly Scandal-Free Administration' By Tom Blumer | May 31, 2015 One doesn't know what to do with the rubbish which follows beyond noting it and hoping that the ridicule which results will somehow and in some way have some kind of impact. Despite 6-1/2 years of horrid governance and dozens of acknowledged scandals, several of which a few of the credible remaining outposts of liberal thought have actually agreed are scandals, David Brooks, the New York Times's resident fake conservative, asserted on Friday's PBS NewsHour, as if it's an indisputable fact, that "President Obama has run an amazingly scandal-free administration, not only he himself, but the people around him."

The relevant video segment is at Real Clear Politics, but it doesn't appear to be embeddable. There is a YouTube of the entire 12-minute Shields & Brooks "analysis" segment for those who can stand it, where Brooks's bombast begins at about the 2:05 mark.

Here's the transcript of the Real Clear Politics snip, which transitions from fellow panel member Mark Shields's discussions of charages against Dennis Hastert (which, as egregious as they might be, appear not to have anything directly to do with his duties when he was a congressman or Speaker of the House:

DAVID BROOKS: First, if the allegations about the contact with the boys are true, well, we have seen that with the Catholic Church. We have seen a disturbing undercurrent in American life, I guess, and maybe in world life, of this sort of thing.

I am struck, as Mark just mentioned, the whole litany of people, especially of that era, who were involved in some scandal or another. Some of it was sexual. Some of it was more financial, even Tom DeLay’s, Speaker Wright. And it was just all concentrated in a lot of people all at once.

Does politics attract such people? I don’t know. Is it prevalent in society? It’s certainly a reminder of original sin. The other thing, though, I did want to say that there are people in American life to whom this has not happened.

And I have my disagreements, say, with President Obama, but President Obama has run an amazingly scandal-free administration, not only he himself, but the people around him. He’s chosen people who have been pretty scandal-free.

And so there are people in Washington who do set a standard of integrity, who do seem to attract people of quality. And I think that’s probably true of the current group. I hope it’s true of the current leadership group in Congress. But — so they’re not all involved in scandal.

MARK SHIELDS: David makes a good point. And I agree with him on this administration in particular.






David Brooks should know, and probably does, but he apparently doesn't care that Tom Delay "was formally acquitted" of "criminal charges of conspiracy to violate election law" in September 2013. That acquittal was affirmed in October 2014. All you need for a "scandal" in LeftyLand if a Republican or conservative is involved is an indictment (if that); apparently, no amount of acquittal or exoneration will ever cause the press to remove the "scandal" tag. Meanwhile, you can have literally smoking guns (e.g., the Obama administration's Fast & Furious scandal), and the press will never go beyond calling it a "controversy" — if that.

Shields and Brooks perfectly exemplify the utter contempt for the truth we have seen during the past seven-plus years going back to Barack Obama's first presidential campaign. It has been and continues to be nothing short of astonishing, even for those of us who expected the worst.

For those who want a healthy dose of reality to offset the utter fantasies contained in the transcript above, Dan From Squirrel Hill's list of 1,080 "well sourced examples of Obama’s lying, lawbreaking, corruption, cronyism, hypocrisy, waste, etc." — dozens of which objectively fit the definition of a scandal ("a disgraceful or discreditable action") – is here.

NEW YORK – “Was George Washington any different from Palestinian terrorists trying to protect their country?”

“Was Jefferson a hypocrite? Did he really think of a slave as a sub-human while writing the Declaration of Independence?”

These questions were written for use in the classroom by Grant Wiggins, a Pearson Education author, partner, and Common Core professional development trainer.

In partnership with the Council of Chief State School Officers, Pearson Education provides lessons, texts, professional development, and other resources to states implementing the Common Core State Standards.

Wiggins is one of several educators and authors who provide instruction via Pearson Common Core webinars.

James Rubenstein, author of, The Cultural Landscape: An Introduction to Human Geography, is also employed by Pearson.

Last year, it was reported that parents in Tennessee’s Williamson County School District were calling for removal of Rubenstein’s book, a resource for Advanced Placement Human Geography courses, because of its anti-semitic content.

As reported:

“…the book… contains the question, “If a Palestinian suicide bomber kills several dozen Israeli teenagers in a Jerusalem restaurant, is that an act of terrorism or wartime retaliation against Israeli government policies and army actions?”

In this Pearson Common Core webinar, Grant Wiggins explains “how issues of backward transfer relate to the Common Core”.

‘Backward transfer’ (also referred to as ‘backward design’ or ‘planning backwards’) is part of the Understanding by Design framework for curriculum, assessment, and learning created by Wiggins and co-author, Jay McTighe.

As explained in The Real History of Common Core: Black Helicopters…’, Common Core’s Achieve, Inc. Far From Bi-Partisan, and Carnegie Corporation: From Philanthropy to Frightening Control to Common Core, the Coalition of Essential Schools is the whole-child progressive indoctrination reform behind the Common Core State Standards Initiative.

Wiggins and McTighe have worked with the Coalition of Essential Schools (CES) for many years as research scholars, studying CES method, pedagogy, and curriculum, and incorporating them into the creation of their own curriculum and instruction design.

A staple of CES reform has long been the use of ‘big ideas’ and ‘essential questions’ to identify desired results of teacher instruction. Stage one of Wiggins and McTighe’s backward design process, which Pearson recently committed to integrating into all new programs, is identifying those essential questions.

The Common Core standards call for students to think critically about the world around them, and essential questions do just that.

For example, at a school founded and led by CES co-founder and Marxist-socialist, Deborah Meier, questions like, “Whose country is this, anyway?”, are considered “higher-level” essential questions.

According to Meier herself in this recent post, Who Owns America, America doesn’t belong to us, nor does Israel belong to the Israelis.

With the recent influx of liberal minded educators (also by design) and biased Common Core aligned texts and lessons from Pearson, Crayola, Discovery, and other CCSSO partner organizations, we see these methods of teaching being used more and more to indoctrinate students through Common Core.

Even absent the biased Common Core resources, teaching strategies like backward design and essential questions are effective in imposing the political and moral bias of the educator onto the student.

As Wiggins and McTighe state here, “the questions ARE the core curriculum, the “content” is not.”.

Compare the Wiggins and McTighe lesson plans below to this lesson discovered in Texas that referred to the Boston Tea Party as an act of terrorism, and this one that said the 9/11 terrorist attacks happened because of bad decisions made by America in the past.

In this lesson plan, Wiggins and McTighe phrase the 9/11 question this way: “9/11 – How and why was it predictable or unpredictable, historically speaking?”

In 2011, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation partnered with Pearson to create a “complete, foundational system of instruction built around the Common Core Standards”. Judy Codding, former president and CEO of America’s Choice was appointed to lead the course development effort at Pearson.

Codding was one of four charter principals who participated in the creation of Ted Sizer’s Coalition of Essential Schools.

Now, as managing director of the Common Core Initiative at Pearson, Codding, along with several other shameless CES educators, including Wiggins, McTighe, and Pearson Foundation Vice President of Programs Susan Sclafani, are being paid to bring their indoctrination techniques and anti-American views to millions of teachers and students via Common Core.

Justice Department Studying ‘Far-Right’ Social Media Use

$585,719 study to combat violent extremism

The Department of Justice is concentrating on “far-right” groups in a new study of social media usage aimed at combatting violent extremism.

The Justice Department’s National Institute of Justice (NIJ) awarded Michigan State University $585,719 for the study, which was praised by Eric Holder, the former attorney general, earlier this year.

“There is currently limited knowledge of the role of technology and computer mediated communications (CMCs), such as Facebook and Twitter, in the dissemination of messages that promote extremist agendas and radicalize individuals to violence,” according to the NIJ grant. “The proposed study will address this gap through a series of qualitative and quantitative analyses of posts from various forms of CMC used by members of both the far-right and Islamic extremist movements.”

The study draws more upon right-wing forums than upon the corners of the web inhabited by Islamist extremists.

“We will collect posts made in four active forums used by members of the far-right and three from the Islamic Extremist community, as well as posts made in Facebook, LiveJournal, Twitter, YouTube, and Pastebin accounts used by members of each movement,” the grant said.

“The findings will be used to document both the prevalence and variation in the ideological content of posts from members of each movement,” the grant continued. “In addition, we will assess the value of these messages in the social status of the individual posting the message and the function of radical messages in the larger on-line identity of participants in extremist communities generally.”

The project will also “identify the hidden networks of individuals who engage in extremist movements based on geographic location and ideological similarities.”

The results will be used for a public webinar, and for presentations for counterterrorism experts in the United States.

Holder highlighted the study in remarks this February at the White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism, as an example of the new methods the Justice Department is using to combat terrorist threats.

Holder said the study will “help us develop more effective techniques and partnerships for counter-messaging.”

While the grant does not name the “far-right” groups that would be examined, other federal agencies have devoted their energy to the sovereign citizen movement.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a report on the movement, whose members believe that U.S. laws do not apply to them, just as the White House held its summit on violent extremism. The administration did not use the phrase “Islamist extremism” at the summit.

DHS stirred controversy in 2009 when it issued a report on right-wing extremism, which included veterans returning from combat as a potential terrorist threat.

The Justice Department and Michigan State University did not return requests for comment by press time.
