>>>>They do not have the extra revenues from disk sales to support low price for the unit.<<

Yeah--all they have is a consumer electronics division that rules the marketplace, a movie-making empire that is rolling in cash with succesful films, and a recording division that is riding the wave of increasing record sales.

Sony doesn't have a chance --yeah, right.<<

Rocky -

Of course Sony could afford to sell HiFD drives at a loss, even though they have to split media revenues with Fuji. But why would they? In case you were not aware of it, Sony is in business to make money. You can't make money by selling products at a loss.

I am a bemused lurker on this thread, and I do own Iomega (in at 17 and more at 26). I have so far resisted the urge to make comments on either the Bull or Bear arguments (as I think they both can be valid and both can offer insight). But with the Rock Meisters recent railings (which only seem to appear when IOM is in a correction phase), I feel the need to make one point.

Why then, Mr. Rock Meister, when IOM announces a product (ala, click or JazzII), is it vaporware, yet when sony or syjet announce a product that is in development, it not only is real, but is going to spell the doom of IOM? It would seem your logic is a bit lacking.
I would argue that until all these products (either IOM, Sony, or Syjet) are actually shipping, can one intelligently discuss the ramifications on the removable disk market. That is when I will make my investment decision.

Aloha,
Mark

Rocky, since you don't agree with the comments made at the CC , does that mean you sold and went short. How does it feel to be a day trader ????????
