Using cloning or imaging to transfer an OS to another drive are essentially the same thing, except with cloning, no compression is involved, which makes it faster. The only problem with drive copies and this is assuming you have a good original, is that a few programs go to great lengths to determine if they have been copied. In 20 years I've found 4 of them. I'm working on a couple of computers for my kids now and the setups will be so the computers will capable of booting from either hdd or ssd. I plan to install the software directly to the hdds and then clone them to the ssds. If any programs complain or malfunction on the cloned drives, I'll re-enter the license keys or do re-installs for the problem programs.
