Re: Wouldn't the old folks like to see the pictures of their grandchildren.

They would love it. My kids and I can send them email with photos all day long (which we can't do today, except by snailmail). And even tell Grandma and Grandpa how to print them out (keystroke for keystroke). It's just that Grandpa and Grandma ain't gonna get pictures into the PC for the reverse trip. That's ok.

You are right about kids easily figuring out the mailing labels, too. I was simply pointing out that smart, adult computer literate users today have a substantial learning curve to climb before they are really comfortable with all the technology that is routinely available today, let alone what's coming tomorrow. Just as a Geo Metro is the right car for some and a Lincoln Continental is the right car for others, the 999 special meets real market needs for real people who exist in substantial numbers. That spells good news for the folks for whom that 999 is right who didn't really have that choice a year ago. It also spells good news for the vendors who figure out how to exploit that need and make a profit while doing it. Everyone wins.

You are right that a 1500-2000 PC is the sweet spot for the combination of capability and price. But grandpa and grandpa don't need titanium shaft golf clubs. Be nice if they had them, but kind of a waste. Because, while the cheapest golf clubs you can buy might be crap that will break in the first ten swings, the cheap computers aren't crap. They are much more like last years model at a very steep discount. Not a bad deal for the newbie.

Best regards,
Burt
