Jeff, it is obvious by now that the land drillers have taken the most beating, UTI down almost 60% from its high this year. The land drillers are supposed to have the highest growth rate in 98 versus others, so I'm betting they will have the strongest snapback when the rally comes. So by comparison, KEG is nowhere near as bad as UTI and PTEN since their highs. However, KEG did get seem to get double punishment lately. At the rate things are coming down this week, we should go to zero by March 98!

A BOP report-

I've mentioned Telechart 2000's, "Balance of Power" indicator, supposedly an indicator of systematic accumulation/distibution. The info. is presented as colorful bar chart with values ranging from +100 to -100 and colors from green to yellow to red. A tall green bar would be above the zero line and indicative of accumulation, while a red one would be negative, showing distribution. Yellow bars are small, and can be either positive or negative. An ad for TC2000 frequently appears in IBD which shows a black and white version of a chart.

To date, I've found BOP readings not to be particularly helpful with the drillers, at least as far as picking one versus another goes. I've seen stocks go up under strong distribution, and go down under apparent accumulation. I've also noticed that small cap stocks show intense readings a lot more easily than larger ones. That being said, there seems to be a bit of a trend of improvement. I've listed some of the readings below, showing the BOP at the last bottom, about 2-1/2 weeks ago (at a cross-hair, I'll say 12/2), and today.

BDI (12/2) -70(red) (12/19) +20 (green)
CDG (12/2)-50(red) (12/19) +60 (green)
DO (12/2) -100(red) (12/19) +30 (green)
ESV (12/2) -50(red) (12/19) +15 (green)
EVI (12/2) +20 (yellow) (12/19) +80 (green)
FGII (12/2) -25 (yellow) (12/19) +25 (yellow)
GW (12/2) -100(red) (12/19) +30 (green)
KEG (12/2) -100(red) (12/19) +30 (green)
MIND (12/2) -50(red) (12/19) -100 (red)
NORT (12/2) -35 (red) (12/19) -10(yellow)
NE (12/2) +20(yellow) (12/19) -30 (red)
PDS (12/2) -50 (red) (12/19) -15 (yellow)
PTEN (12/2) -25 (red) (12/19) +50 (green)
RDC (12/2) +15 (yellow) (12/19) +35 (green)
RIG (12/2) -50 (red) (12/19) +25 (yellow)
SESI (12/2) +100(green) (12/19) +85 (green)
UTI (12/2) +30 (green) (12/19)+30 (green)

Overall, the red readings seem less prevalent. MIND's is still strong, but I've noticed that secondaries seem to give strong distribution readings for a while. NE's chart had a red bar, but the overall pattern has been mostly neutral. Of note, last March showed strong green readings for most drillers.
