Two reasons. He thought he wouldn't get caught. Then he thought he could lie his way out. The latter was what got me.

OK, fair enough.
Given that he later did the same thing, well, he has issues. I feel sorry for his wife.
I was about to say, "I wouldn't," but then I discovered that she was pregnant with their first son when the scandal broke.

That's a shame.
