The "need" is the govt regs, .1% now affects between 14000 ships who are 100% in ecas, and another 7000 who are part time in ecas.

As I understand it, cruise ships are the biggest fuel hogs who need to use it, they can probably pay back a dsox in less than one year.

As we get closer to 2020, the pressure to decide will grow, and the lack of install time and drydock capacity for competitors' huge egs.

Unfortunately, even Rasmus didn't anticipate it'd take this long to get the first 2 working right. He says its not the dsox thats not working, but the whole system setup. I have a complicated engineers schematic of a whole dsox system and evidently making it all work, WITHOUT CHEMICALS, using just water and electricity, is the delay.

IF they can get it below .5% without chemicals, it will be a major cost, space and complexity advantage. Other scrubbers use expensive and bulky NaOH for one of their 3 configurations.

I have been following and buying it now for 19 months, I know how frustrating it is. In his first public interview, Rasmus predicted huge fleet orders, in spring of 2014.

New tech, an industry reeling from low daily rates and endless overcapacity and a slowing world gdp, an industry very slow to adopt new tech enmasse, even when ordered to.... we wait.

Myself, I am thinking about when to buy lots more. I can see .08 or even .05 this year in the absence of delayed news on finishing Disney and Mobile LMS.
