It is because they have no sense of history. They only know the Bowlderized versions. If you read contemporary accounts, the facts of the situation had not escaped many people. FDR certainly knew those feelings were widespread. That is why he was so bold. He also knew what was at stake, we were close to a revolution.

I think they consciously stay clueless. Gives them more room for their fantasies.

There are similar forces at work now.

That's right. And they have no idea how bad it is.
