Security Essentials was renamed after Windows Vista, but it may look similar? Mine is called Defender and has a check box for RT protection under the settings tab

Turn off automatic scans in Windows Vista Defender

Hi Suma, This video is fairly quick, but you can pause it to see the steps.

This is my Vista computer and after I turn off the automatic scans, I show that Defender is still running.
