I need to do some more research, but as far as I know there are many scaled down versions of passive terrain following systems that can provide EGPWS. For example, Computing Devices International is involved in a joint agreement to use the TERPROM algorithm as a GPWS.

Is the Allied system the only one approved by the FAA for use in the US? If yes, then I'm not so sure that means that there will not be more to come. Potential candidates are Lockheed Martin, Fairchild Defense, Computing Devices, GEC-Marconi etc. Most of these use a combination of GPS and INS.

I am not very familiar with this segment of the market, I stumbled across it because Orbital Sciences' Fairchild division works with it. As I stated, I will look into it more.

Did you have any information about active (radar) GPWS as a cheaper solution?

Thanks,
Boda.
