N2 accounts for some 78% or so of the atmosphere. O2 is around 21%. CO2 is up to 400 ppm or some 0.04%. Basically a rounding error.

Warfie was technically wrong, but essentially correct. Any increases in CO2 levels get swallowed up by the fact its concentration is so low.

No, we don't. Did you miss the part about O2 becoming CO2.

Let's say you have 8 N2 and 2 O2. I don't know why I picked those numbers, except that the atmosphere is pretty much 80% N2 and 20% O2, plus the trace gases.

8 N2 + 2 O2 + 1 fossil C from under the ground -> 8 N2 + 1 O2 +1 CO2.

We lose one atmospheric O2 for every fossil C we burn
