There is no such thing as "unchecked competition" in the U.S.

If only that were true. It isn't. You tell me, who is the competition for Amazon for online retail? No one has the breadth of products that they carry. Who competes with Microsoft on the desktop and laptops? Or Intel in processors? AMD announced a couple of years ago that they weren't in in direct competition any more across the whole line, just certain niches. That might change when Zen is released, but probably won't. Who competes with Google? I mean, really competes? Between their web apps, YouTube, search and Android, they basically own the Internet.
