They didn't even go down to the market and pick out a darkie. Let the straw boss do that. Mostly the white folks were a rum-sodden lot given to sitting around the tavern bitching about high taxes. Kinda like today's teabaggers. The fat white colonists didn't really fight much either when it came right down to it. If it weren't for the French and the Hessians, they would have been soundly defeated and hung by that evil King George.
