Thread, I find it absolutely amazing that the media continues to churn out its dismal stories about the woes and malaise of the ailing networkers. But in light of the correction these stocks have gone through its surprising why they are neglecting to talk about the chip equipment sector which in the opinion of many is more vulnerable to problems in Asia since 50% of their stuff is sold there.
Yet their stocks get upgraded and the beaten corpses of networkers get thrashed again by these prolific reporters.
I think I know why. Its easy to stretch your imagination in reporting known gremlins. The networking companies have openly stated their problems and the solutions are also being implemented. However the chip equipment makers are still in the state of denial that there is a slowdown in their growth. C,mon even a moron can figure out that when your customers currency falls by almost 50% or there is economic turmoil (disabling borrowing power) in his country your sales are in jeopardy. Yet these companies are saying that they have not officially received a letter of cancellation as yet.
What I am saying is that in light of such uncertainty whether the letter is coming tomorrow or not the market is awarding the chip equipment companies close to the same valuations as it is to the networkers (whose worst is bottoming). I think there is a major game in the works of universally negative on something and then being universally positive on something else, come what may.
In the words of Gecko from the movie "Wall Street", Blue Horseshoe hates all the networkers, besides Cisco. Now let the dirt digging and flinging begin.

Some articles are really contradictory and hilarious. One of the reasons cited for Ascends weakness has been earnings decline due to pricing pressure resulting from Remote Access equipment from Cisco, 3Com, Bay and Cabletron. BAY and CABLETRON ??? In the last market share report Bay was in the low single digits and Cabletron was nonexistent (which actually was the content of another article that stated that Cabletron has dismal future growth prospects as it lacks ISP products like Remote Access equipment !!!)
Another one stated that Ascend cut their own legs off because they were selling RA equipment like Safeway, buy two and get one free.

My point is this that most of these dickheads know s**t, they just write an article as its their job. They give a hoot if the info is accurate or slightly resembles reality. Use your own strategy and info. Three years ago there might have been tons of such bearish articles written around the country about all stocks but we never got to know about them because this thing called Internet was not up and running for us.

Did you notice that last time it did this, it rallied from 22.5 to 27s, then the next day the rumor was out and it was 32. Could we see a story over the weekend, or maybe on monday ? Could have been all option related, but I think there is something else going on here. We were just too much stronger today than the rest, and the close and after market was exciting.
