RW, what you and many of your compatriots fail to understand is that politics and economics are intertwined. It is no accident that people who demand freer markets end up with more freedom and Democracy. As the US has lurched to the left and increasing Socialism, our Freedom ranking scores have plummeted. The reason is simple. Only Democratic institutions serve the people and have the best chance to preserve strong property rights and individual freedoms, which are essential to a free people. Socialist and Communist countries have to create a police state to enforce their rules, which involve taking the hard earned money from one group of people to give to another group.
