Altair Announces Large Tonnages With Superior Grades On Tennessee Titanium Property December 19, 1997 06:40 PM CODY, WYOMING--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 19, 1997--Altair International ALTIF Altair International Inc. today issued interim results showing its Camden, Tennessee, heavy mineral sands property has excellent mineral grades, averaging 3.7 percent total heavy minerals. The heavy mineral fraction contains a considerably larger content of valuable titanium and zircon minerals than most commercial deposits presently being mined. Importantly, internal zones of high grade material have been identified. Preliminary feasibility work on the property, based on tonnage and grade features, indicates the potential for a large-scale sand mining operation with a multi-decade life. "Higher grade mineral zones are an economic bonus," said Dr. Williams P. Long, Altair's President. "By beginning mining in high grade zones, we will be able to accelerate project revenues and investment payback." Three individual units have been defined within the resource: "Beach Sand Unit" 285 Million tonnes @ 3.7 percent total heavy minerals, including 78 million tonnes @ 4.4 percent total heavy minerals, and 24 million tonnes @ 5.7 percent total heavy minerals "Reworked Sand Unit" 109 million tonnes @ 1.2 percent total heavy minerals "Overburden Unit" 53 million tonnes @(1.0 percent total heavy minerals The valuable heavy minerals found on the property include titanium (ilmenite, leucoxene and rutile) and zircon. Additional other minerals are aluminum silicates (staurolite, kyanite and sillmanite) and other minor minerals. Over the past year, Altair's exploration activities have included geologic mapping, sample collection, drilling of 45 auger holes and preparation of geologic and resource models. The resource model also incorporates 40 drill holes completed by an earlier exploration company. Resource model estimates are consistent with resource estimates previously determined by other resource companies. The deposit is amenable to large scale, low cost mining - the sands are unconsolidated and hence easily worked. A world market exists for good grade titanium and zircon concentrates. New sources of supply will be required as current sources are depleted. Altair's resource definition program is ongoing; resource computations will change as further information is gathered. Additions to the defined resource are expected as extensions to the deposit are drilled. Because mineral grade variations have been identified within the deposit, mine and mill design assumptions must be modified to conform with the defined resource. The independent contractor carrying out the prefeasibility study is presently incorporating these criteria into their calculations in order to arrive at a more definitive result in making a determination of project feasibility. Shareholders will be kept apprised as meaningful study results are produced. Altair International is in the development stage of commercializing its state-of-art technology, the Centrifugal Jig, which recovers extremely fine, heavy particulate matter using a combination of a mechanical jig and centrifugal force. Potential applications include gold/mineral recovery, coal cleaning and environmental remediation. Altair is the 100 percent owner of a major titanium/zircon mineral deposit in Tennessee.
