The 21-year-old suspected of fatally shooting nine people at a downtown Charleston church went from store to store at a Columbia mall in February, asking employees about how the businesses operated. Concerned security guards at Columbiana Centre mall called police after Dylann Storm Roof of Eastover asked employees at a shoe store and a Bath & Body Works about how many people worked at the stores, their closing times and when the employees typically leave, according to an incident report. He was arrested after that Feb. 28 encounter when Columbia police found prescription painkillers on him. Roof told the police that he was asking questions because his parents were pressuring him to get a job. Jennifer Timmons, a Columbia police spokeswoman, did not immediately say Thursday whether investigators were concerned about his motives then.. postandcourier.com
