If he were immortal to begin with he would not have died. There would have been no need to resurrect him from the dead. (Rom.8:11) The holy spirit can operate in different ways on different ones for a purpose. It's the same spirit that brought the entire universe into existence. It empowered Samson to perform deeds requiring outstanding strength, enabled Peter to walk on water.
