Hi All!

There's some interesting news in the Li-ion, prismatic (flat and thin?) battery world today, from PR Newswire (I found it on AOL).

"PolyStor Signs Contract With Sony for Automated Lithium-Ion Battery Assembly Line," is the title.

"DUBLIN, Calif., Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- PolyStor has signed a purchase order with Sony Factory Automation (SonyFA), and Itochu Corporation, for a fully automated assembly line initially capable of producing 500,000 prismatic lithium-ion batteries per month, to be delivered in Q2'98. The line, which is designed for mass production of PolyStor's new high energy NiCo prismatic cell, will be expanded to 1M cells per month capacity in 1999. This sale represents the first time that SonyFA, a recognized leader in battery manufacturing equipment, has sold equipment outside of Sony Corporation."

This machinery will go into a new plant in Livermore, CA.
