That is the irony of many overt racists. They can, and often do, have friends of the despised race. Which is why it is often said that the way to eliminate racism is through education. Once they get to know some, they will realize that working with stereotypes and painting an entire race with a broad brush is wrong.

I dont really buy this, however. This guy is a perfect example. There were at least 20 people who he was friends with who were black. That didn't seem to give him pause.

As to the ease of getting a deadly weapon. Use the free market. Require people to have, and maintain, insurance on their guns. Let the insurance companies decide how risky each person is when they write the policy. I imagine a drug screen would be part of the process and that would have nailed Dylann. It wouldn't be foolproof, but it would be better than what we have now.
