Judge Expresses Doubt About Microsoft's Position.

via Wired News

>Microsoft's position has stirred up a reaction ranging
from outrage to ridicule. On one end of the spectrum,
the Justice Department marched back to Jackson
and demanded that the company be found in
contempt of his order and be fined US$1 million a day
until it complies by offering a meaningful choice for
computer-makers. At the other extreme, browser
rival Netscape has begun publicizing instructions on
how to rid a hard drive of Internet Explorer.

At today's hearing, Jackson himself expressed doubts
about Microsoft's statements. He said that on
Thursday he had a court clerk walk him through the
process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 3.02 from his
PC and noted the whole process took about 90
seconds.

Far from being broken, he said, "Windows 95
functioned flawlessly" after the removal. Jackson said
the program could be reloaded with equal ease in
what appeared to be a very simple process.

"If it's not that simple, I'd like to have it refuted," he
told Microsoft representatives at the hearing.<
