Australia is a good example. Great Britain is another. In both cases they implemented stricter gun control measures and the overall homicide rate declined in both places. Which gives credence to the notion that guns are a quick and easy way to commit a murder. Maybe too easy. Without a ready firearm, the would be murderer has to find an alternative. And that seems to discourage the impulse.

Which is not to say the rate of violence has declined. Dunno about Australia, but in Great Britain, you are a lot more likely to be a victim of violence than, say the US. But you are a lot less likely to wind up dead because of it.
