That is what YOU see. I see just a plain old southern redneck. Probably not a racist bone in his body. He would just as soon beat the shit out of you as any black guy that came along.

I don't find anything racist about the flag.

You have to cut to the chase: The Civil War was NEVER about slavery. Sorry, it just wasn't. Could you have made ordinary people, almost all of whom were NOT slave holders, go fight for the right to own slaves? Of course not.

These people were fighting for something far bigger: The understanding that if they didn't fight it was a matter of time until the North would simply have overwhelming power and be able to force the South to cooperate. Which is sort of where we are today, so I'd have to say they were right.

Slavery was an almost immaterial fact to most of those who were fighting. It was about political power.
